This is the oldest wooden bridge still standing in the world. Although damaged by fire from a vendor’s stall in the late ‘80s, the beauty of the bridge and the pictorial representation of St. Nicholas's life are awe-inspiring. You may get a crick in your neck from looking up at the detail and beauty of these triangles of art and history. Just watch out for the oh-too-friendly little old men that want to pose for a picture with you they grope.

This isn't Disney or a huge cathedral, but, like the rest of Lucerne, the quiet elegance of the bridge just makes it worth the time.

This is a another great place in Lucerne for quiet reflection. This peaceful park with a monument made painstakingly by one man is a tribute to the death of the Swiss Guards hired to protect the young King of France. A crocked bishop had set a trap in the quad of his church and the Swiss Guards were told they must not bear arms in the church; when the group entered the quad, they were all killed protecting the king. The lion's paw covering the shield represents the Swiss Guards protecting, even in death, the French king. The Fleur de Lis was originally the emblem on the shield, but has since been replaced with the cross of the Swiss flag.

If you just want to unwind and find unusual fountains and peaceful little alleys to stroll down, Lucerne is the place to go. Although there are many shops to tempt your wallet and cafes to tempt your tummy, I just love the views. Every time I have been to this quiet little town, I feel a weight lift off my shoulders. You need not rush and see this or that; just walk around and amazing sights and smells will fill you.
