I recommend figuring out when the rhododendron season is and going then. There was a lovely park near the B&B where I stayed with lovely, full-headed blossoms dripping everywhere. University of Oregon's campus is also something to see. I loved happening upon a group of singing Mormons, shopping in a hippy-girl clothing store, and cruising the library on campus. I am mainly writing this journal to let people in on a great secret in Eugene: the Secret Garden. The rooms are themed -- I stayed in "Barn Owl." All come with chocolate, tea, a European soaking tub, and free access to an extensive movie and book library. TVs are hidden in lovely antique-looking chests. The bathroom has chamomile shampoo, robes, and slippers for your stay. The breakfasts are great -- I ate poached eggs in toile china cups. Truly memorable and worth the trip to just stay there!

What a great find this place was. I confessed to the taxicab driver of my personal woe and he promptly delivered me from the Red Lion (God only knows) to the Secret Garden. It was bliss! I had a fluffy bed with superior linens, a big tub to soak in, enough Doris Day movies to turn my brain pink, and chocolate at the bedside table. Not to mention that there was a GREAT Vietnamese restaurant down the street where I had Po or Fa (I can never remember)-- the noodle soup that you put scallions and such in. Delicious. This B&B is like a poetic dollhouse...I found myself taking pictures of sculptures and poems around the house. (Yes, they actually have poetry painted on some of the walls). ...Read More
