Orlando: Not just for Kids

Overview

The best thing about Orlando is on those perfect days when the sun is out, the humidity is low, and you can sit out by the pool. When you are exploring the parks and the lines are short and the screaming children are at a minimum. My favorite time in Orlando is when it grows dark and the sky is lit up with fireworks from inside the parks.Orlando has also added some new malls, e.g. The Mall at Millenia that can also pass the time.Quick Tips: While hotel prices can take a large bite of your travel budget there are dozens of choices in every price range in Orlando. Some relatively inexpensive hotels are located near the parks. One site to check out is http://motel-coupons.com/Florida/ wh...Read More

Disney World Wyndham Palace Resort & Spa

There is nothing palace-like about this hotel. It is one of the better hotels in Disney, but during my last stay in February, there was a slight damp smell in our rooms. It is not bad from a business perspective since they have real desks and high-speed internet access and decent room service. Also, it's very convenient to get to Pleasure Island, which is within walking distance. Normally I am a fan of the Wyndham hotel brand since their customer service is usually quite good. Make sure you join the Wyndham by request program. You usually receive upgraded rooms and some sort of perk. At this hotel, I received free local calls, and a small bottle of wine and cheese and crackers ...Read More

This is one of the Disney properties I would not recommend at all. The furnishings are poor and the layout is too spread out. In order to get to anything in this hotel, you have several options: a long walk, a drive, or a Disney shuttle bus. In order to get to the rooms you have to enter your room key in order to raise the gate. The room swipe was clearly meant for a mans longer arms since I had to pull the car very close to insert the car and drive the car through quickly before the gate descended 10 seconds later. The food at the restaurants was below par. It was overpriced and poorly cooked. Don't bother with room service unless you like salami on everything, except the bucket ...Read More

I had a two-bedroom suite and I would recommend this resort to anyone who appreciates clean, spacious, and well-maintained accommodations. It has all the amenities of home with room service. There are big screen TVs in all rooms, VCR, stereo, enclosed porch, kitchen, and a Jacuzzi.  There are also tennis courts, a game room, business center, and basketball courts available on the premises. The pool areas and parking are great. There are several heated pools through out the complex as well as several lakes, which makes one think they are in the middle of a tropical oasis. You can also order casual food including sandwiches, burgers, drinks, and snacks poolside. There are also severa...Read More

The best thing about this hotel is that it is bright, airy, and relatively new. Within one hotel, you can choose the type of hotel room you want to stay at – each room is meant to express Florida through various themes. Key West is a bit loud for my personal taste, but if you want a bright Caribbean themed room, then that is the one for you. Everglades has lots of greens and browns meant to evoke a sense of nature. St Augustine is fashioned after old world Spanish. My personal favorite is Emerald Bay with high beds, tasteful blues and gold, and heavy walnut furnishings. A very new feature in the hotel that was not there on my last visit was a computer in every room. You can check you room bill, su...Read More

This is one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a hotel. Even if the condo units were five-star, I would never recommend this timeshare to anyone due to their extremely poor customer service. We went last summer and there were 16 of us checking into six units. Upon arrival, there were dozens of patrons waiting to check in, as the complex was severely overbooked. While we were here for a timeshare presentation (five days/four nights for $199) and it didn’t leave the best impression; it was worse if you owned a timeshare. You would think they would have at least been accommodating to their timeshare owners. Even for them, there was no relief as they were told there was no room for them either an...Read More

If you have money to spare and love the lap of luxury, then the Ritz Carlton Orlando is the hotel for you. This resort has five-star restaurants and an award winning golf course. The hotel rooms are a study in understated elegance and are more like what you would find in a more cosmopolitan city, not Orlando, which is known more for its bright colors and appeal to children. The rooms are beautiful with marble bathrooms with separate showers, and all rooms have balconies. The amenities include CD players and bathrobes for your use. During the day, Dad can play on the 18-hole golf course and Mom can have a spa treatment or two at the onsite spa and get her hair done at the salon. Kids under...Read More

This hotel is located close to both the Disney and Universal hotels. Universal Studios is located a short drive away. If you choose not to rent a car, the hotel offers a free shuttle to the Disney parks. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance: Red Lobster, Sizzler, IHop, and Denny’s. The theme of this hotel is the African safari. The hotel is done in various shades of brown, with animal prints throughout. Parking is free and ample. If you come in late, you have to park in the back of the hotel. Kids will like the waterslide at the pool, as well as the on-site game room. The rooms are a decent size and come with Sheraton Sleeper beds, refrigerators, and coffeema...Read More

Go early. If you go towards closing, the lobsters have been under the heating lamps too long and are tough. There are pluses and minuses to this restaurant. The wait staff is attentive considering that it is a buffet and ensure your beverages are kept filled. If you are looking for quantity and decent food, this is the place to go. If you are looking for fine dining and a gastronomical delight, look elsewhere. Good variety of seafood in vast quantities. Food is brought out and kept hot or cold depending on needs. Decent value for the price. There is a variety of food to choose from clam chowder soup, tuna salad, lobster bisque their is also a raw bar with oysters, clams peel and eat shrimp s...Read More

This is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at. The presentation is above par the staff is friendly and the food a perfect blend. I was glad I was traveling for work since this is a very pricey restaurant but well worth it. Our final tab for three including tip was $97 per person. They do have prix fixe available ($55) per person and a tasting menu for ($85) per person. The yucca shrimp was extremely good jumbo shrimp stuffed with yucca and breaded and fried served on a bed of "cabbage salad" The house salad was great field greens, blue cheese and a great vinaigrette dressing. For entrees, we all went with a fish dish. The yellowtail was moist with fresh asparagus cooked t...Read More

Epcot is the learning component of Disney. This is one of the places that should be on every elementary schools trip list. The innovations going on in Disney are fascinating in the extreme. In the Land, you get to see all of the new growing techniques such as growing plants in the air without soil and pest resistant fruits and vegetables while using little if any pesticides. Imagination is suitable for very small children. You can see different types of fish in the Living Seas and see a special presentation of Finding Nemo. The only ride I would not recommend is the new Mission Space. It is simulation ride similar to what astronauts go through to prepare for a space mission. I came out f...Read More
