Artist you'll love Ubud

Overview

Quote:
I originally went to Ubud to buy silver and see Bali, but what we experienced we will never forget. The sights and sounds of Ubud will never be far from my soul. See the arts, shops and temples and food, you will be spellbound too.Quick Tips: I would suggest you wonder through the town by foot. Don't wear a watch, just enjoy the totally exotic surroundings. Go into the villages by motorcycle and meet the local people, who were really gracious to us as travelers. Lose yourself in the remote and well preserved villags and you'll forget Kuta.Best Way To Get Around: You can walk forever in Ubud. The atmosphere of this restaurant is really nice. It has a large water pond and rock garden. You can sit outside and eat in the open air. The food was tasty and reasonable in price. The view was priceless.

Gamelan Dance

Attraction | "The local balineese stle dance is called Gamelan"

Quote:
Get in contact with the Ubud tourist center to obtain a comprehensive list of nightly performances. The cost is just 7000 R. We saw the 'Legong' dance, wich was very colorful and authentic. Masks are used in this dance and drums and other instruments. In spite of the fact that this dance is performed for tourists, it is really a true active part of the balineese culture. It is a real treat to behold and the music is great, too. Good family entertainment. We got a tape of the music at a local bookstore. Great memories surround the music when I here it now. Bring your video camera, too. They are permitted.

Gamelan Dance
Gamelan Dance Is Found Nightly At Temples
Bali, Indonesia

Quote:
Go to the silver smith villages to get the best buys for silver. You will need to travel a little out towards the outskirts of town, but it's worth it. We found a lot of variety in the prices asked for silver and were able to barter to get the best prices. We were impressed by the quality of the craftsmanship and the balineese beads made of sterling silver were fabulous finds.

Be aware of the temple etiquette, when visiting these sacred places. We were fascinated by the rituals and music that filled the temples. Don't take flash photos inside the temples and wear a sarong, even if you are a guy. Ladies should try to cover their bare shoulders and no shorts. We were luckey enough to see a community getting ready for a funeral. They were constructing a very large paper mache and wood horse. It was to be painted and used in a person from the village's funeral. the dead person would be cremated in the horse. We were impressed a the way the horse was painted and it seemed everyone in the village was working on the art-object for the burial. It was a fascinating and a...Read More
