Peace & Plenty InnMore Photos

After a restful sleep in a luxurious Bed and Breakfast, we were ready to hit the sites! Since this was the first time driving on the left side of the road, we were a bit nervous at first. Read on for a helpful hint on conquering those roundabouts! Also, a favorite eatery overlooking the harbor is included.

We took in Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World & Antarctic Encounter with its fabulous underwater walkway, and Savage Memorial Park for the view before enjoying a wonderful lunch at Annabelle's. After lunch, we visited the FREE Auckland Museum.

Peace & Plenty Inn
The Peace & Plenty Inn is a romantic and luxurious Bed & Breakfast in a historic home. It is located in Devonport, a delightful seaside village across the harbor from Auckland. Auckland is 10 minutes away by ferry or 20 minutes by car. The home was built in 1888. Rooms are charming with fine art, chocolates, wonderfully comfortable beds, fireplaces, and private ensuite bathrooms. Fresh, fragrant flowers abound! Breakfast was hot, made to order, and delicious. We hope to return one day!

Restaurant | "Annabelle's"

We had a wonderful lunch at Annabelle's, overlooking the harbor. Annabelle's, named for the owner's daughter, appears to be a favorite of the locals. The food was good, and water was served in pretty cobalt blue bottles.

Attraction | "drivin' on the left thru Auckland..."

We enjoyed the Kelly Tarlton Underwater World & Antarctic Encounter, especially the moving walkway that passes through a clear tunnel surrounded by fish, sharks, & stingrays! Way cool! We also stopped at nearby Savage Memorial Park, above Tamaki Drive, to see the view and the Memorial.

For a look at Maori culture in a museum setting, visit the Auckland Museum--home of the 82 foot Maori War Canoe. Periodically throughout the day, Maori dancers perform their native dances and explain some of their history. The Auckland Museum is FREE!

As a Travel Consultant, I try to give clients some instruction in handling those roundabouts! Something I wish we had been prepared for our first time out. The first thing I tell them is that they'll learn to love them. Not only are roundabouts efficient, they're actually quite fun! Once we learned (by trial & error) that a line across the road in front of you meant to 'Give way' or 'Yield', while no line meant--'Don't even think of hesitating...just get out there!' we had an easy time of it. And, of course, if you miss your exit...you just go 'round again!
