Skiing at Blue Mountain

A January 2004 trip to Collingwood by joejoe80

This is a really nice, clean, friendly area. The weather was excellent and we had loads of snow. Blue Mountain is small compared to western Canadian resorts, but it's great fun.

Ski at Blue Mountain. Lots of runs to choose from - my personal favourite is Happy Valley. Try Yahoo for a bit of fun. The mountain is a great place to build up your confidence if new to skiing. A must is a visit to Tube Town - that is great fun! Go down in a group if there's a few of you - its much more fun. Also try a husky dog sleigh ride for something different.

Quick Tips:

Ski rentals from Banff Sports just before the mountain. If you know before the end of October that you're going there, it's worth buying the special rate annual lift pass, as it actually works out cheaper than getting a week pass when there. If not, ask your resort if they do discounts.

Best Way To Get Around:

Definitely a car - we hired a jeep type which was excellent in the snow. Taxis are great value at night - they don't charge any extra after 9pm to encourage you NOT to drink and drive.
Best Things Nearby:
Blue Mountain

Best Things About the Resort:
comfortable and good size with good amenities

Resort Experience:
Easy to find and located just a few minutes’ drive from Blue Mountain. The apartments were nice, plenty of space and comfortable too. Heating was great so you didn't notice how freezing cold it was outside! Well equipped with utilities. The resort was lovely, plenty of parking so you didn’t have to carry your equipment far! A pool and Jacuzzi, which was great after a hard days skiing. A restaurant and bar - both these were fairly quiet whilst we were there, but both enjoyable. Staff were very friendly and helpful and offer you discounts at local attractions.

Great, friendly staff. If you're a firefighter, take one of your T-shirts, as they love collecting them in exchange for a fire hall one. Food was yummy - you can create your own pizza from a great selection of ingredients. Good drinks selection including lots of cocktails. Real buzzing atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights. A great night out.
