Venice in Las Vegas

A March 2004 trip to Las Vegas by Haruyo

Quote: Now you can visit Venice without leaving North America. The Venetian Hotel has recreated many of the famous landmarks, architecture, master paintings, and sculptures. They have even brought over authentic gondolas and singing gondoliers in a canal that runs from the outside to the interior.

There is so much to see in the lobby and hallways of this hotel. Look up at the famous artists renderings even on the ceilings. Artwork reproductions and sculptures abound. When you check-in, you are provided with an informative booklet containing all the maps, dining establishments and other activities offered by the hotel. If you check-in at the Venezia Tower, an attendant even pushes the elevator button and tells you which elevator is coming up. Marble floors and reflections of gold are everywhere. Security personnel are always double-checking that you have your personal key and are very careful where people roam. The Venezia Tower suite has a huge bathroom, double sinks, separate toi...Read More

Grand Lux Cafe

Restaurant

This cafe is located in the casino area and is opened 24 hours a day. Grand Lux Breakfast Buffet offers a huge variety of fare, including a chef to make your own personal omelet. Your choices include scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, and hash browns, along with huge assortment of buns, muffins, granola, fresh fruit, and yogurt. Also included in the buffet price is orange or pink grapefruit juice and coffee. They serve excellent eggs Benedict as an option instead of the buffet. Royal Star

Restaurant

Quote:
Though it’s best known for its pan-Asian cuisine and oriental décor, lunch at the Royal Star could also include dim sum with a large selection of seafood, hargow, noodles, dumplings, shumai, and other assorted varieties of meats and vegetables (served on traditional metal carts), along with hot white steamed rice. The service is excellent. You use chopsticks or a fork if absolutely required. To make sure the seafood is fresh, there’s a live tank containing crabs, lobsters, fish, prawns, and shrimp. There’s also a selection of wines, or sake if you prefer.

Tsunami Asian Grill

Restaurant

Quote:
Located at the end of the Venetian shops right across from one of the boarding areas for the gondolas, it is an interesting sight to watch the gondoliers if you happen to get a window seat. There’s an extensive menu of Pacific Rim menu items. Start with miso soup, tempura, and a choice of sushi or sashimi. One of the other menu choices, which comes in a traditional bento-style box, includes a lot of vegetable tempura with some shrimp tempura and white rice. There’s very interesting decor with lots of metal and a long stairway up to get to the bathrooms. Full bar. Excellent service.

P.S. Italian Grill

Restaurant

Quote:
The restaurant is one of many located on the casino floor. It has an open patio that faces some of the slot machines -- it's always entertaining to watch people.

Menu options include grilled pizzas, calamari, salads, and pasta. They also serve great veal piccata with a glass of white wine and crusty bread.
