A December 2003 trip to Nuevo Vallarta by Bigsneaky

This is a newer area of Mexico. The resorts there are all first class, but it is an area built for tourists. It doesn't have the charm of Puerto Vallarta, but it is beautiful.

Overview

The area is a little isolated, and unless you rent a car, you probably won't go much beyond your hotel. The resorts there are all beautiful. Several are all inclusive, but we stayed at the Mayan Palace, which wasn't. We loved the resort. When we left the resort, it was usually to go into Puerto Vallarta, where we could see more of the real Mexican charm and experience a more varied social scene. We also spent a day at the water park across from the Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta. Our young children had a great time there (and so did we).

Beautiful pool, gardens and unit.

Resort Experience:
This was our first stay at a Mayan Palace resort and we were very impressed. We've stayed at several of their other resorts since then. The landscaping was so lush and pretty. The resort was beautiful and our unit was very spacious with top quality finishings. Daily maid service was great. There were many activities for the children to do. The pool was awesome. We never saw anybody swim in the ocean. There are several nice restaurants and shops at the resort.

Restaurant | "Eating at Mayan Palace"

We had several meals at the resort at different restaurants there. The food was always prepared nicely, although we usually found it a little expensive. There is quite a lot of choice, and a lovely restaurant near the beach for a romantic dinner of fine food and the poolside lunch food is always fresh and good. Each night there is a buffet of specific cuisine at one of the restaurants.
