I went to Ft Lauderdale with my girlfriend to look at a timeshare.

I think that you cannot go to Fort Lauderdale without going into the Everglades and Jai Lai. Both are so much fun that I wish it was closer so I could go more often.

Quick Tips:

Stay away from Ramada Plaza Resort.

Best Way To Get Around:

Rental car.

Ramada Plaza Resort

The only thing that I can say is that they were the worst accommodations I have ever stayed in. This is where the timeshare put us up for the first night. The rooms smelled sour, the restaurant was terrible, the staff was rude (except for the bartenders). If you go on this trip to Fort Lauderdale, do like we did and complain about the accommodations first thing - they upgraded us to the Sheridan Suites in Pompano, VERY PLUSH. I would not want anyone having to stay in a commercial district for a vacation - no food, nothing around for 10 miles.

Florida Tap Room Restaurant & Bar

The tap room was very nice. We were seated on the deck and it was very romantic. We would definitely go back. Great food and service. After dinner, we went into the bar, where they had a live band playing, and we sat there and just had a couple of cocktails and watched a great band with a lot of very nice people in there. It was right on the Intercoastal Waterway with big yachts going in and out all night. People walking down the boardwalk and a nice sunset.

Airboat ride in the Everglades

The airboat held about 20 or so people. We went out through the Everglades and the cattails. There was lots of wildlife and GATORS. The first stop is on a Seminol reservation to learn about alligators and see a guy wrestle one. But the highlight was the gator tail that we ate -- it was so good and seasoned with natural peppergrass.

This was a great outlet mall that has every type of shopping that you could want at great prices. I purchased another pair of Rockport shoes at the Rockport Outlet. I did not need another pair, but the $80 shoes that I buy in the DC area were there for $30. Great food and good indoor and outdoor walkways to shop in. On a nice day, shop in the outdoor walkways and feel the nice sun on your body. On bad days, you can go inside and be protected. This place is very large - I read it is the largest outlet mall in North America.

The Elbow room

What a cool place. All open air with great upstairs and downstairs seating. This is just a little hole-in-the-wall, but what a fun group of people! The pool tables were in desperate need of repair, and since I did not see any food there I think people chew on the tips of the sticks. If you are an avid pool player like me, it just frustrates you until you get a few drinks in you.

This is a very interesting game that you bet on. We purchased the most expensive seats in the house for $2.25 a seat. We had no idea what we were doing and had some locals show us how to read the book, and they made sure that we understood how it worked. We were then ready to make a mint. After watching a few games and playing along without betting, we then proceeded to lose $100 in 45 minutes. What a blast!
