My family and I traveled to Freeport, Bahamas, for a week. We stayed at the Xanadu Resort and Marina.

The best thing to do while in Freeport is to go into Lucaya and go to Unexso and do the Ultimate Dolphin Experience! They take you out on a boat into the ocean with two dolphins. Ours just so happened to be male, 20 years old, 9 feet long, and 500 lbs each. While on the boat ride, the instructor has them jump and do tricks for plenty of photo opps. When you reach your destination, you get in the water with them one by one and they take you on a ride; you also learn hand signals to instruct them what to do and you get to feed them! They also offer two other options if you don't want to go out into the ocean: you can just sit on the edge of a lagoon and you can also get in and swim in the lagoon with them. The prices range from -269.

As for water sports at our resort, there wasn't a lot there to do. The banana boat was on the back of a jet ski, so it defeated the purpose of a real banana boat ride and jet ski cost for a half hour.

We also went on Pat and Diane's Snorkeling Cruise! I would definitely recommend doing that! They have a rock-climbing wall and slide on the boat! The fish were very beautiful and colorful! Watch out for jellyfish and barracudas! Don't worry they won't bother with you, unless you have something shiny on!

Quick Tips:

Don't stay in Freeport. There is nothing around to do. The place to stay is in Lucaya! Right there is a marina and all the water sports you could want. Also there is a large shopping center in the Port of Lucaya, which is right next to all the resorts!

Best Way To Get Around:

If you need a taxi while in Freeport, contact Adrian Martin! He was the best chauffeur you could ask for! He gives you the best deals on the island and tells you everything you want to know! He is very friendly. . . just wait ‘til you hear his laugh!

The resort had just gone through a face-lift within the past few months. We stayed in a beautiful one-bedroom room. We had a shower in one bathroom and a Jacuzzi sized tub in the other. We had a view of the marina from our room. Some of the rooms were being worked on, so noise pollution was somewhat of a problem.

There is a tennis court, ping-pong table, and gorgeous pool! The resort is right near the beach and there was a small straw market on the beach. Make sure you bargain! The beach is calm and gets kind of full on some days. The tide is low on most days so the water isn't very deep. If you want rest and relaxation, stay here in Freeport. And make sure you go talk to Hattie!

Pier One

Restaurant

At Pier One every night at 7, 8, and 9pm, they ring a dinner bell and throw scraps out into the ocean where WILD SHARKS feed. It was an awesome experience, the food is good, and the portions were suitable for the price. If you are taking a trip to Freeport, you definitely need to go to Pier One – it’s a great experience!
