A Winter Break

A February 2004 trip to Philadelphia by tigges

We needed a break from the Iowa winter and didn't want to go too far, but wanted someplace warmer than Iowa. So we decided to take a break to the Pearl River Resort just outside Philadelphia, MS. What a great place!

The rooms are very nice, spacious, and include a coffee maker, refrigerator, and blow dryer in each room. It is very modern and we had a beautiful view out of our window.

Best Things About the Resort:
The best thing about the resort is the friendliness of the employees. They are all so cheerful and ready to help.

Resort Experience:
This is a large resort, with two hotels; one hotel has both indoor and outdoor pools, and the other has just an outdoor pool. The resort as a whole has a spa, six restaurants, and a large water park. It also has a Hard Rock Beach Club that will be opening in the spring. They have several bars with entertainment in the evenings. They also have big name entertainment on the weekends. This resort consists of two large casinos that are connected by a walkway over the highway. It is a great place to spend a few days just to get away.

While we were there, they had a special at the Chef's Pavilion, which is one of the buffets at the resort. They had what they called the "Belly Buster Buffet" for $2.99 every day for two weeks. The buffet was great and the deep-fried catfish was really good. They know how to make catfish in the South!!

Pearl River Resort is a great place to go for a few days, especially if you enjoy gambling. There are two very large (Las Vegas-like) casinos, each with its own hotel. They are connected by a walkway over the highway. These casinos are very modern and have a large variety of slot machines and table games. Everyone was so friendly and personable. It was a great winter getaway for us.
