Beautiful Acapulco

A December 2003 trip to Acapulco by blackner5

Our family stayed at Seagarden Acapulco and took several sightseeing tours in Acapulco. We found that Acapulco is a favorite of native Mexicans and it is clear why! Our experience was wonderful and we now recommend Acapulco to our friends.

The best things to do? Be lazy, relax by the beautiful pool, hire a driver to tour the city! Memorable moments? The Christmas dinner/dance on the beach! It was lavish, delicious and lots of fun. Also, we visited the "Cici" waterpark in downtown Acapulco, where our kids swam with dolphins for about . What a deal!

Quick Tips:

There is a "Sea Market" convenience store across that street owned by the resort. (Prices are high!) However, the restaurant attached to that convenience store had good food and reasonable prices. Otherwise, eating at the resort was quite expensive.

Best Way To Get Around:

We hired a local driver whom we found through our church. This man took us shopping and to restaurants, and with our limited Spanish, we had a great time with him. DON'T let the taxi drivers take you wherever they want to. They are all "compadres" with shop owners and get a cut of the profits if they take customers in. Be aware that the predominant attitude of the Mexicans seems to be that Americans are all wealthy. This was not true in our case!! So, beware over-friendly taxi drivers who don't have your best interests at heart!
Our room was quiet and cleaned daily and was spotless. The maids managed to come in while we were gone and were never in our way. They even folded the towels in fancy shapes and left candy kisses on our pillows. Our children slept on the couch/beds in the living room and the maids even made up their beds in the evenings. The pool had an activities director who tried to get the guests to participate, but the adults all preferred relaxing rather than expending unnecessary energy! It was a very relaxing place. We also spent time across the street at the Mayan Palace and even ended up buying a timeshare there. To say we were impressed was an understatement. There is a very high level of service at these resorts!

Isla La RoquetaBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Snorkeling at Isla de Roqueta"

We took a glass-bottomed boat to Isla de Roqueta in Acapulco Bay. The trip out included a stop at an underwater statue of a Saint where one of the boat proprietors dived down and did a few somersaults and then asked for tips! The island itself was great. You rent a table for $3 for the day and the restaurant serves you as you desire at reasonable prices. The garlic baked red snapper was wonderful. The snorkeling off the shore was lots of fun and there was coral and a variety of colorful fish. The shoreline itself was very active with many luxury yaughts and tourist boats coming in and out all day.
