Queretaro Weekend

A March 2004 trip to Queretaro by lutz_r

Queretaro has a great variety of restaurants in the are -- almost all of them are expensive, but it's worth it!!! The downtown is great, but there's not much to do here.

Check out Downtown and Jurica, the nicest places to go in Queretaro. You can also go to the Cerro de las Campanas (there are tours that take you there). Queretaro is loaded with restaurants and most of them are good, so just pick the one that you find will best suit you.

Quick Tips:

-Beware of the drivers here!

-Go to Josecho

-Go see a soccer game at the stadium, it's something you don't want to miss.

Best Way To Get Around:

Rent a Hummer and that way you'll feel safer in this crazy driver city. In Downtown you can walk, everything is close by and you don't require a car.

Hotel | "Hotel Hacienda Jurica"

Nice place! Staff is friendly and there are a lot of things on site (horseback riding, basketball, volleyball, mini-golf, pool, squash, ping-pong and more!).

The restaurants on site are fine but the food is not the best. And the waiters we got were not very friendly or helpful. The rest of the staff were great and the check-in and out process was very quick.

We got four hotel units, each had either a king bed or two double beds in the unit, full bathroom, TV and a minibar. Everything was in good shape and the unit size was good for a hotel unit.

I really recommend this resort, it is very complete and it is very nice because it is an ex-hacienda type hotel. The resort is in Jurica, a very nice residential area with big houses.

Restaurant

Bring your wallet loaded because food here is very pricey, but the quality is EXCELLENT! This restaurant has to be one of the best I've ever gone to.

The restaurant is full of animals that the owner of the restaurant killed (he's a hunter) and there's also a big modern fountain and a very nice man who plays the piano while you enjoy your gourmet food.

The menu is very complete and has things you won't even imagine. You can eat things like buffalo rib eye, Kobe quality steak (Kobe cows are black Japanese cows that are considered to be the best beef in the world), lobster, crab from Alaska, and a lot of other exotic dishes you’ll surely enjoy.

The service is also very good here; you feel like royalty with how they make you feel here. I see no flaws in this restaurant at all. Even the price feels good after you try the food.

Really, if you are going to Queretaro go to Josecho, it's an experience you won't forget. I go to Queretaro just to go to this restaurant and believe me when I tell you that I'll keep going even if move to another country.

Story/Tip

The downtown area of Queretaro has to be the highlight of Queretaro; it is very pretty and it's the most colonial part of Queretaro. Here you can do some shopping for Mexican candy, T-shirts, Mexican art, or other small things they sell on the streets.

Queretaro is considered the cleanest city in all of Mexico and the locals take it very seriously; you'll see garbage cans every 10 steps and you won't ever see garbage on the streets.

In the main garden, there are a lot of small restaurants with tables outside so you can enjoy your meal while you admire the view. The restaurant I would recommend in the main garden is 1810.

You can also take day trips to San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Peña de Bernal, or Real de Catorce.

WARNING: I live in Mexico City and I'm used to dealing with traffic and crazy drivers, but I've never ever seen such crazy drivers like in Queretaro, so be careful because they really are nuts!!!
