It's not as touristy as Amsterdam, as beautiful as Leiden, or as mysterious as Groningen. But it is there: the official city of Holland.

Seeing 'The Suits' springing on their bikes after a hard day's work and head home or for a drink. All the ministries are in this city, so you can spot the Dutch political scene from here.

Notice the 'Tweede Kamer' and 'Het Binnenhof', which are the symbols of historic burocracy of Holland.

Quick Tips:

Not interested in politics? Then you can spend an afternoon at Mauritshuis or Panarama Mesdag.

Best Way To Get Around:

Everything is within walking area. There are also trams, if you are desperate.

Restaurant

Unfortunately, I always forget to ask the address of this place, but once you are in the centrum, on the main shopping street you will run into it. It is not possible to miss big cheerful and yellow boards explaining 'What is Falafel?' in many languages.

Falafel is really not Dutch but this place is really good healty food. The giant salad bar is at your service for 3.25; I have already tested their patience, so feel free to fill it up. If you have had enough of slow Dutch restaurants which cost a fortune and a vegetarian suffering from the Chinese torture, here is the opportunity for survival. I will ask for the address next time, I promise.

End of the Shopping Street The Hague, Netherlands

This house has been built by Captain Johan Maurits van Nassau in 1644. Because the building is old itself, it is one of the most interesting museums of Holland.

The most famous pieces are 'De anatomische Les van professor Tulp' of Rembrandt, and 'Het meisje met de parel' by Vermeer.

According to my Dutch teacher, professor Tulp was not a professor himself but someone who made money by showing people anatomical theater. And the curious fellows around him are his friends. They wanted to be photographed together but camera was not invented yet, so they posed for Rembrandt who was in serious financial trouble most of the time and gladly pictured them.

My favourite piece is 'De luizenjacht' of Terborch which I find very myself. This museum is a must for the art enthusiast.

You can easily follow the arrows everywhere pointing to the hot spots. Do not miss Binnenhof: It is an old building complex which still houses ministries; you can also take a guided tour here.

You can walk to the palace Noordeinde where the Queen 'works', only the museum is open here. You can also shop until you drop at the elegant shops and shopping centers of The Hague.
