Our Meeting with Orville and Wilber

A February 2004 trip to Kitty Hawk by Gnipgnop

Quote: A bonus week took us to Barrier Island Station in Kitty Hawk, NC. We were disappointed that a lot of the good restaurants were closed because it was off season. The resort was beautiful and clean with a health club better than anything we have at home. Would definately return.

Our Meeting with Orville and Wilber

Overview

Quote:
Our visit to the Wright Brothers Museum was fascinating and educational. The replica of the original aircraft was on display with a narration of the flight in detail. Very much worth the cost of .00.

Quick Tips:

The beach was in really bad shape because of the disaster Isabel caused in Sept. 2003. They are working hard to replace the sand, but the beach was awful. Homes along the shoreline were demolished; knocked completely off their pilons.

Best Way To Get Around:

You definitely need a car to get around. There are many things to see and do nearby, but to get there, you must drive. I did see a couple of taxis, but I would not suggest it. It would be cheaper to rent a car.

The unit was spacious, clean, and beautiful. We were on the second floor and if you have trouble with steps, ask for a unit on the first floor. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The bed was clean and comfortable (king size)and the bathroom was a little outdated, but clean and spacious.

A visit to the Wright Brothers Museum was a real treat indeed. The cost is $6 per person to enter, but it’s well worth it. There are volunteers who give guided tours and personal narrations. It is so awesome to see how much progress has been made in the flight industry. A walk along the runway of the first flight takes you back to the beginning of wonder: “Will it ever work?” Well, Wilber and Orville, guess what?! We are now traveling to the moon and Mars. Thanks boys!!
