Sking in Telluride, Colorado

A February 2004 trip to Telluride by texaslonghorn

Telluride, Colorado is a quaint town in southwest Colorado. There are no franchises allowed, no McDonalds, Walmarts, or chains. It's a very friendly town in which no car is needed at all. The sking is fantastic with no lift lines and slopes to yourself, especially during the week.

Quaint hotel on Main Street, great location but loud because it is above the Sheridan Bar. Expect to get woken up around midnight to 2am by individuals leaving the bar. If you're one of the individuals, you'll like the hotel. Very hard mattress. Hot breakfast every morning - very good: waffles one day; omelet the next.

Rustico RistoranteBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Service is horrible; hostess is snotty; food is overpriced for the quality and taste; worst of all, it is rated in Wine Spectator as having an excellent wine selection - they didn't have our first choice and the wine was served in cheap wine glasses while the table next to us was served with Reidel wine glasses. You have to buy a $100 bottle to get the good glasses…should be based on wine cost/person, not wine cost per table.

Restaurant | "Cosmopolitan"

Cosmopolitan is a favorite among the semi-locals (those with timeshares/condos/houses). The service is very good as well as the food. The main course is excellent, desserts were good. Be sure to get reservations to avoid eating too early or too late.

Dog SleddingBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Dog sledding is fantastic, especially if you love dogs! You can help harness the dogs. One person rides in the sled with a down sleeping bag, very warm! The other is behind the sled with the guide. You stand on one side of the sled and help the guide turn the sled...your legs do get a little workout. Watch out when the dogs go to the bathroom, especially if your in the sled...the smell is not pleasant. Hot coccoa/cookie/croissants at the midpoint, before you head back. Beautiful scenery.
