Skiing in Germany

A January 2004 trip to Bayerisch Eisenstein by E & A

"Grosse Arber" is a small ski resort, great for families with young children, best experience concerning lift prices and options, personable ski school next door. Intersting cities around in case one does not only want to ski, including day trips to the Czech Republic.

Best Things Nearby:
Ski school with own bunny hill and lift
Skigebiet Grosser Arber
Czech border
Lots of interesting Bavarian cities

Best Things About the Resort:
its cleanliness, friendly staff

Resort Experience:
It is a historic place that has seen its last renovation around 1950, but you can see that things are kept very well.

It's very much off the beaten path, but the whole area has so much to offer besides the family-friendly skiing.

It is also one of the most affordable places in Germany.

Restaurant

We took half pension with our stay at the Resort Hotel. We had one menu offered to us each night but were always asked if that was a good selection for us. With us was our 3-year-old child, who was not charged extra but received always his own dessert and/or soup.

The food was great every single day and we were there 7 days. If you want something great for little money, that is definitely the way to go.

Attraction

The area is rather small, but for families with little children it is great, because the tickets can be bought in hour increments up to season passes so one is not stuck with a day ticket and can only use it 2 hours.

The have three ski schools there. We took the closest one to the hotel, walking distance, and the small group and personal atmosphere on their own ski hill was great for our 3-year-old son.
