Dartmouth Nova Scotia, city with the view

An August 2000 trip to Dartmouth by samepenny

View from Dartmouth of HalifaxMore Photos

Dartmouth is the other major city on Halifax Harbour. It has many advantages for visitors, not the least of which is fantastic views of Halifax, ships, bridges and also plenty of parking. Dartmouth has an open 'airy' feel as nature has been respected. 23 lakes give an opportunity for views and water sports.

The Maple Leaf
A ten minute ferry ride from Halifax (or over one of 2 bridges), Dartmouth has many fine restaurants, shops and things to see. Plenty of room to park our large American SUV, which was often a problem in Halifax. Home of Theodore II, the tugboat (if you don't know who Theodore II is, ask a child under 5).

Quick Tips:

Plenty to do with lodging less expensive than Halifax.

Best Way To Get Around:

Park and walk, but public transportation is great and inexpensive.

We looked over this place with an idea where to stay next in the Halifax area. The irritation of downtown Halifax parking (no different than any other large city) had us on the look-out for places with free, convenient parking as well as the ease of getting to and from our SUV without major delays. Dartmouth makes an interesting alternative to staying in downtown Halifax as you can get over to Halifax in 10 minutes on the ferry and already be at the bottom of the hills at the Harbour where most of the activities are.

Country Inns and Suites has other locations in Canada and elsewhere. They are a very good value for money. Their WEB site has a currency converter so that you can figure out what the rates will be in your home currency. Bless them for that! Click here for Country Inns and Suites!

The Best View of Halifax
In the waterfront center, just above the Dartmouth ferry landing, this restaurant is outstanding for a number of reasons. The food is fantastic, the service is great, the view is unbelievable and the atmosphere is very pleasing! White table cloth service. I had a steak which was excellent. The seafood eaters among us had more fantastic Nova Scotia seafood. All were very pleased.

Attraction

Nothing is nicer than to be out on Halifax Harbour on a fine day. The ferry ride certainly beats an expensive Harbour tour and is readily available.

The new multi-purpose facility certainly gives alot to do. Mostly we ate, but then that's what we enjoy most next to shopping. Fabulous views of Halifax. Easy parking.
