Agana, Guam- Paradise in the Pacific

Overview

Quote:
Most rememberable moments included walking from wing to wing of a B52 Bomber located on the base grounds. The impulse got the most of me. The nature was great and its people as well. I truly hope you will learn to like a place called Guam. It has always held good thoughts in my mind.

Quick Tips:

Buy a 'Guam Bomb'. (No pun intended.) It was simply commonly called that. It is a bad-conditioned vehicle for one on a fixed income. They were cool!

Best Way To Get Around:

To visit the beaches is terrific and well as the nature is so splendid. Taxis are fairly affordable.

Dulce Nobre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica

Attraction | "Dulce Nombre de Maria Basilica"

Quote:
Dulce Nombre de Maria Basilica (Sweet Name of Mary). This majestic basilica is located on the site where the first Catholic church on Guam was constructed in 1669 under the guidance of Padre San Vitores. You will see large palm trees alongside this church. The original structure was demolished during World War II. The present chuch was finished in 1958. The church is now among Guam's Register of Historic Places. Beneath the original first Church of Agana several matua or high clan Chamorus such as the Maga'lahi Ke'puha were also buried. As with other cathedrals around the world it houses a piece of the religious artifact of the original Cross.

Chamorro Village's Wednesday Night Market

Attraction | "Agana Chamorro Village(Farmers Market)"

Quote:
Adjacent to the boat basin is the Chamorro village (Farmers Market). The buildings are spanish-colonial style, and among them are a variety of arts, gifts and crafts shops. Restaurants there serve cuisine in Chamorro , Filipino, Japanese, Mexican, Greek and others. Every Wednesday night from 5:30-9:30, there are ancient cultural dances, live bands and exhibits by crafters. You will also see vendors selling 'betelnut'. It is a palm nut which is chewed. Try it, since you never will at a lot of other places.

Guam's Coral Reefs

Attraction

Quote:
Guam is renowned for their vivid turquoise lagoons, deep-sea currents and the clarity of their water. Between December and May, visibility underwater is as much as 150 feet, and even during the wet season is as great as 60 feet. The average water temperature is 85F year-round.

The variety and spectacular abundance of Ocean Denizens and 150 types of coral are why scuba diving/snorkeling and fishing are popular in Micronesia. Snorkeling spots for beginners include the protected bays inside the reef at Tumon Bay and at Merizo. Basically, Enjoy!!!

Guam's Coral Reefs

Guan, South Pacific

Quote:
Agana, Guam is and has been the seat of government for the island of Guam for most likely forever. Its name, Agana or Hagatna, is also called Guahan (we have)in the language of the Chamoru people. The people of the island,(taotao tano) were to have named parts of the island to correspond to parts of the human body. The Chamorro legends tell of Fu'una, who used the parts of her dying brothers body to create the world. Her brothers eyes were the sun and the moon, his eyebrows were the rainbows, his chest the sky and his back the earth. She then turned herself into a rock, from which all humans originated. It is the life blood of a larger body called Guahan or Guam. Hagatna is the life blood venue...Read More
