Let me tell you about my experience in sunny Cancun, Mexico.

It's worth going on day excursions to see the Mayan ruins in Chichen Itza and tour Isla Mujeres on a golf cart. Also, don't forget to shop at the local markets and bargain!

Quick Tips:

Wear TONS of sunscreen, drink margaritas, and go to your dinner entertainment at your resorts!

Best Way To Get Around:

Walk along the beaches around the hotel strip. It's beautiful and you can visit some of the other great resorts. Taking the bus is cheap and it comes often. Just ask your hotel staff for assistance about which buses to board to get to a specific destination.
During my family's trip to Cancun, we stayed at two different all-inclusive resorts. Blue Bay Getaway was our first hotel. We arrived on April 28, 2003 and stayed for seven nights. The resort itself is beautiful. This is a lively resort catered more for the singles or young couples. They even have a minimum age for guests of 19 years. Let me tell you, this makes a difference. If you want less crowds, no little kids, quiet, and relaxation, this is the resort for you. The food in the resort is great and an added bonus is that you can get free transportation to their sister resort, Blue Bay Club, and can use their amenities and restaurants for free.

However, a negative of the Blue Bay Getaway is that their beach is not as beautiful as those on the other side of the hotel strip. Their beach is not as blue and the sand not as white.

The beach at this hotel is beautiful! There are great entertainment shows for you and your family. We loved the swim-up bar. How convenient is that? This is a hotel that is not just for couples -- you can bring your kids here and they'll have just as much fun as you. They even have books at this resort that you can borrow and read while lounging in paradise! This is a resort for everyone. You never have to even leave the resort to have fun!

Key word here: STAY AWAY! The Mayan Palace Resorts are RCI resorts. However, they are associated with a timeshare program called Discover the Dream/Mayan Escape. If you stay at this resort, somehow they will try to push you to enter their timeshare presentation. They'll tell you it will only last an hour or two, but it will last about six hours! My family did not stay at the Mayan Palace Rivera Maya during our Cancun trip, but we got suckered into their presentation because the first thing we saw at the Cancun airport was the Discover the Dream sales booth, which promised free excursion tickets for our family by just visiting their resort. Don't do it! It's not worth it. If you want to see Isla Mujeres or Chichen Itza go pay yourself. It's cheap without the discount. The Mayan Escape sales team use high pressure sales tactics to pressure you to purchase a vacation plan from them and don't take NO for an answer.
