Quick Tips:

The obvious one -- keep reapplying the sun lotion! We spotted lots of extremely pink people; one girl on our cruise got sunstroke.

Best Way To Get Around:

We walked usually, but taxis are plentiful.

Tropic Days is what a hostel should be. Kathy collected us from the airport, showed us around, and gave us good advice on what to see and do for the rest of our trip. She booked our snorkelling trip for the next day and it was significantly cheaper. Our room was cosy, clean, and the air-conditioning worked. Because the hostel is so comfortable, guests tend to hang around and chat. Don’t let the distance from the Esplanade put you off either. Like most visitors to Australia, snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef was one of my highlights. Passions of Paradise was recommended to us by Kathy, the owner of Tropic days hostel, as one of the better Great Barrier Reef tour operators, and so it proved. They are not, as we say in Ireland, a Johnny-come-lately operation; they have been around since 1989. It’s a long but very enjoyable day.
