Dunhill Links

A September 2002 trip to Fife by shadyacre

Love Scotland! We stayed at Kilconquhuar Castle, and it was absolutely grand. We stayed during the week of the Dunhill Links Golf. Visited St. Andrews often, beautiful area. We were privileged to stay in the top suite of the castle, turrets, and all.

Overview

Our most memorable moments were watching the jet fighter planes from a nearby airbase at St. Andrews flying over the Old Course at Golf Club St. Andrews. I felt very wealthy in my soul.

Quick Tips:

Have a good road map!

Best Way To Get Around:

Hire a car.
Best Things Nearby:
St. Andrews, castles, only a few hours to most Scottish sights.

Best Things About the Resort:
Luxury.

Resort Experience:
From the minute we drove through the grand gateway with its gatehouse, up the winding drive with golf on either side, to the first view of the lovely castle with its manicured gardens abounding, we thought this place was just heavenly. There were lots of horses in the paddocks next to the castle where there is a great equestrian school. The resort had all the amenities you need.

Our accommodation was a three-bedroom/three-bathroom (one with a spa) suite called the Robert The Bruce suite. It was on the top floor of the castle and we had a turret room in each corner of the huge lounge room. There was a full kitchen and washer/dryer -- very impressive. There was a lovely view out of each window and lots of things to do at the resort.

We dined in the resort’s restaurant. It was traditional Scottish food, haggis and all. Mmm. I don’t know about that haggis.

The entertainment consisted of some wonderful skits on Scottish history. We were seated at large round tables with eight other folk, all timeshare owners from various parts of the world, which made for great conversations over dinner.

Attraction

Activities ranged from relaxing golf or croquet, to a hard game of tennis or laps of the pool. You could also take a wonderful ride through ancient Scotland on a horse from the on-site equestrian centre.

Story/Tip

This was the best surprise of our holiday and we went to quite a few countries that holiday. Scotland was just beautiful around every corner. From busy Edinburgh to Inverness, Fort William, Glencoe, Loch Lomond (the beautiful Cameron House), and Bannockburn, (Braveheart country), everywhere we went was so full of history and interest.
