Our Fabulous Honeymoon in Antigua

Overview

Antigua is a beautiful island, and in my opinion did not have the level of poverty as islands such as Jamaica. The people in Antigua are friendly and courteous. We enjoyed our honeymoon at the Sandals Antigua Resort and Spa. The resort offered a quiet peaceful setting, with multiple swimming pools for relaxing or more active swimming pools with swim-up bars and daily entertainment. We also ventured into town for shopping. We went on a catamaran snorkeling excursion, which was a lot of fun, and spent a lot of time walking on the beach at Dickenson's Bay, which was beautiful.Quick Tips: If you go to Antigua, I would definitely recommend the snorkelling excursion that goes to Cades Reef. Sandals is an all-inclusive resort for couples and the Antigua Sandals is known as one of the best honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean. Located on a lovely half-mile stretch of beach at Dickenson Bay. There is an activity stand down the beach for tours, or you can book directly at the resort. They don't have internet connectivity at the resort itself, but conveniently located next door, was an internet cafe with state of the art equipment for those people who have to check their email or surf the net while away from home. The resort included all the amenities that Sandals is known for. All meals, drinks, tips, and activities were included in the price of th...Read More

Dickenson's Bay Beach

Dickenson's Bay is a beautiful beach. It is only about half a mile long, but the soft powdery sand and the beautiful ocean made you wish it would go on forever. We quickly learned that beaches with "best beach" awards don't always mean miles and miles of white sand, but nonetheless it was very picturesque. Additionally, there was no seaweed, rocks, pebbles, or sharp shells, so swimming and walking along the edge were comfortable and relaxing. The vendors along the beach were not pushy as in some places, and you found yourself engaging in conversation with them, learning more about them and their island, rather than trying to avoid them. We stayed at the Sandals resort located...Read More

Catamaran Trip to Cades Reef

Snorkelling at Cades Reef was fabulous! We were picked up by the catamaran at Dickenson's Bay. The catamaran stopped at a few other resort locations on the trip to Cades Reef, including Jolly Harbor. The catamaran trip itself was enjoyable. It provided a scenic view of the island, and because of the stops at other resorts allowed you to "window shop" for potential other places to stay for future trips to the island. For those people who had never snorkelled before, they had a quick overview on what to expect on the way to Cades Reef. This was my first attempt to snorkel, and I thought they did a great job providing helpful tips to make the experience enj...Read More

Shopping in downtown St. John, Antigua

Story/Tip

Quote:
We went to the town of St. John for a morning of shopping. There were many duty-free shops throughout the town, and we were able to compare prices and get some great bargains on watches, and jewelry. I didn't think that the prices were any better than any other place you can go to duty-free shops, however they had a great selection. If you are staying on Antigua and plan to go shopping, I would recommend researching the days where there is a lot of cruise activity in port and avoid those days when possible. The town was very busy with people and you may find it less hectic when the cruise ship passengers aren't also there competing for a good price. ...Read More
