Stowe Snowflakes in October

An October 2003 trip to Stowe by sunergy

Quote: A great family getaway to one of the East's great destinations. We enjoyed hiking, biking, great food, and even made snow creatures on top of Vermont's highest peak before Columbus Day. Staying at the Mountainside in Stowe was a treat, as we swam and hot-tubed daily.

A cozy, modern resort tucked in the forest complete with pool, sauna, whirlpool, game room, tennis court, large open spaces and a playground just down hill from our unit. We stayed in a one-bedroom unit that was ample for our busy, close family. The kitchen was appointed well enough that we could make our own pizza, though the microwave works well for heating up restaurant leftovers. We had two televisions that were handy so we could watch shows later while the kids slept on the comfy pullout couch in the living room. The office has variety of videos for rent, which worked well for a quiet evening for our boys. The living room had a wonderful Vermont Castings gas fireplace that work...Read More

Collection of whips of all types and vintages adorn the walls of this fine restaurant. In warm weather, the outdoor dining in the rear courtyard adds to the pleasure of the dining. The pool of the hotel is just below with a fountain chuckling away for ambience. The food ranges from the simple personal pizzas to meat, poultry and seafood specials that will satisfy all tastes. There are several Vermont brews on tap – Magic Hat, Long Trail, Rock Art – and a great wine selection from the simple to the sublime. By far the best item on the menu, is a chocolate lovers dream – Sac de Bon-Bon. More than enough for two, this treat is literally a chocolate bag filled with an exquisite chocolate mous...Read More

This is a terrific spot for lunch with the family or a dinner with your love. They do lots of parties for kids. A wood-fired oven is only one focal point of this place, as the décor is literally out of this world. Planetoids adorn the walls and hang from ceilings – even the lights are mini-Saturns.

The pizza surpasses the décor and there are all the great Italian options, as well as vegetarian special.

It’s just off the bike path too!

Mount Mansfield Gondola Ride

Attraction | "Gondola ride up Mount Mansfield"

Quote:
The boys and I splurged for a trip up the mountain on the gondola to have dessert at the café at the top. Spectacular colors of the foliage showed though the mist as we rose. The gondola is about five miles up Mountain Road in Stowe. For under $15, you get a roundtrip journey up Vermont’s highest mountain, though there are those who hike back down. As we got above the tree line, the first snow of the season began. We could still see the colors of the fall trees below, but we watched the mountaintop gather its winter mantle. We burst out of the car and ran to make snowballs and laugh. It was perfect for molding creatures and we made a snow turkey, as it would soon be Canadian Thanksgiving. Snowmen and ...Read More
