A September 1998 trip to Cancun by worldwind

Quote: We stayed at the Omni, which was absolutely beatiful. The room was very clean, with all tile floors. There were three pools and daily activities, which kept us busy. We did the all-inclusive, which is by far the best way to go.

Honeymoon in Cancun

Overview

Quote:
The highlight of this trip was the Jungle Tour -- we had so much fun and most of the couples were newlyweds, so we all shared a lot in common! The thrill of the ride out to the snorkeling location was fun. . . make sure you stay in single file -- they don't like you to race three abreast in the lagoon (try telling three men that!).Quick Tips: Don't get involved with anyone offering you free excursions -- they are all for attending timeshares sales. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.Best Way To Get Around: Public transportation runs every few minutes and it costs 40 pesos (.40) per person. Make sure you hold on because the bus drivers drive very fast. Taxi rides are...Read More

The room was all tile, with a very spacious bathroom & nicely decorated. Most important, it was very clean. It had a king bed, a sitting area, and a nice balcony. The room had a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, TV, clock radio and a mini bar. However, the mini bar wasn't included in the All-Inclusive package, so you were charged for anything you ate or drank....a bottle of water was $3.95! The entire hotel was immaculate and beautiful. You couldn't be disappointed staying here.

Da Vinci

Restaurant

Quote:
The main courses weren't great; they had very little to no flavor and the salad consisted of two pieces of lettuce and a couple shreds of carrot. My husband and I returned to Da Vinci's a second time, but ONLY for dessert! The desserts at the restaurant are to die for! They had a dessert that was shaped exactly like a mini grand piano -- it was unbelievable and a must see.

The ambience of the restaurant was remarkable. Request a table by the window so you can view the gorgeous ocean. The lights are kept dim making for a very romantic atmosphere.

Pina Colada

Restaurant

Pina Colada was a restaurant underneath a hut right on the beach. This was our favorite at the Omni. The food was good and you had the best view overlooking the turquoise Caribbean. You can wiggle your toes in the cool sand and sip on pina coladas (the biggest I've ever seen) while you wait. BEWARE if you order the grouper you will be getting the entire fish, eyes and all! WOW! Was I surprised I had to cover the eyes up to eat it? But it was actually really good. Also, watch out for the Mexican chickens, which are iguanas that run around on the sand while you wait. This was quite a treat, a must visit if you stay at the Omni.

This was a lot of fun. We took a jet ski through what looked like a mini jungle. We followed the lagoon out into the ocean where we all tied up together and snorkeled. There were tons of fish of many different colors. We spent about an hour there snorkeling and then drove our jet ski back to the dock. On your way back, they have someone taking you picture and you can purchase it once you return.

Attraction | "Parasailing"

Quote:
I would suggest that if you plan to parasail, don't do it from the beach. Go to an excursion company so you take off from a boat and land back on the boat. We saw a couple do a tandem from the beach, and as they were running in the sand, the girl fell and the guy tried to help her up. They managed to make it off the ground about 50 feet and the line disconnected from the parachute and the boat, causing them to fall 50 feet into the water. They were carrying their camcorder, so that got destroyed and the operators suddenly couldn't speak English. This would have been enough to ruin any vacation.

One of our Favorite Vacation Spots

Cancun has it all! That’s what makes it one of our favorite vacations spots. It’s very easy to get to from any city in the U.S. and, from our experience, very inexpensive for airfare and hotel accommodations. Cancun has everything going for it -- it’s beautiful beaches and there are many different excursions that take you to beautiful eco parks and other historical sights. The Hotel Zone is sectioned off from the locals, so only the tourists and employees of the Hotel Zone are allowed in this area. You can walk down the street without feeling uneasy, which is not common in a lot of other vacations spots we have visited. They have several nice shopping malls and a market within ...Read More
