Resort Experience:
Goolwa is a historic town with its wooden boats and paddle steamers on the River Murray and the Cockle steam train traveling between Goolwa and Victor Harbor each weekend, and at all times during school holidays. The south coast nearby towns of Middleton, Port Elliot, and Victor Harbor are also very pleasant to visit. Victor Harbor has Granite Island and the fairy penguins as tourist highlights.
Their is also a relatively flat bikeway along the coast, which makes for excellent scenic opportunities.
The barrage across the river, separating fresh and salt water, and the Murray Mouth at Goolwa are must see spots. Boat trips are available into the Coorong area to see aboriginal sites and the many different varieties of birds, or a boat trip to the nearby Currency Creek and Ballast Stone wineries is pleasant with lunch and tastings included.
Within a half hours drive are the approximately 50 wineries at McLaren Vale, which makes a great day trip (this is one of the resort activities on the bus).
