Nashville is not as Country as you think

A March 2001 trip to Nashville by AngelaMHaven

Nashville is not as country as the image holds. It's not all about country music and cowboy hats.

One of the best things to do is to experience downtown and take a tour of every little honky-tonk bar along Broadway. You can hear the blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, rock; you name it! It's fun to take in each bar - its live music – up-and-coming acts or acts trying to get a deal. Also, you are on the Tennessee River, so every June you have a huge festival with, of course, music and lots of food! I felt very safe walking around Nashville in the evening hours - if you want a taste of Nashville, take in a little bluegrass bar called The Station Inn. They have live bands just about every night - it's worth the small cover that you will pay. This is the best experience.

Quick Tips:

Shopping is a great thing! You have outlet malls where you can find anything you are looking for!

Best Way To Get Around:

You can walk around downtown Nashville. Public parking is plentiful. If you are staying close to the Opryland Hotel, you will need a car to get downtown.
Best Things Nearby:
Across the street is the Opryland Hotel and Opry Mills Outlet Mall. Also, for those great breakfasts, you have Cracker Barrel right there!

Best Things About the Resort:
This was a great place to stay. The two-bedroom units were wonderful and spacious! Felt like home! Bedrooms were a good size and the bathrooms were huge!

Resort Experience:
Fairfield Nashville is centrally located right off of Briley Parkway. You can get to downtown Nashville very easily. They have an indoor pool and hot tub, which is convenient for the winter months!

Demos' Steak and Spaghetti HouseBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Demo's Steak & Spaghetti House"

Demo’s is a great experience! If you are craving something to eat, it's probably on the menu! My favorite is the shrimp scampi! But if you want chicken, fish, steak, pasta - it's on the menu! Prices are very reasonable for what you get - salad, sides, and great bread! I have gone here for dessert and they change their dessert nightly! I could eat here every other night and not get tired of this restaurant! The staff is wonderful and very hometown! During the week, I have been able to walk in and be seated without waiting. On the weekends, I would call and put your name in - if you show up, it's worth the wait! Hang out at the bar and talk to the locals!

Station InnBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

The Station Inn looks like a hole-in-the-wall from the outside, but on the inside, you will get the best bluegrass performances! This is a place that has been around for 30 years and a visit here is worth your time! The best times to go are on Tuesday nights to see the Sidemen and when Larry Cordle and Lonesome Standard Time are there. There’s live music, they take requests, and it's just one huge music jam session. There is a cover charge, but it’s worth every penny!
