Overview

Quote:
Post office was just over the next block on Dungmen St, close by the Shin Yeah Taiwan Buffet if you have anything you wish to mail back. The staff was extremely helpful, helping us protect and wrap our parcel. Shin Yeah Taiwan Buffet close to our hotel, Little Ding-Dong Science Park, especially when we had the place practically to ourselves. When I was trying to determine the pricing at Shin Yeah Taiwan Buffet, we came across the help of a young woman and man, both students studying English, who explained how they priced the food. During our lunch, we inquired how to get to the Little Ding-Dong Science Amusement Park. He explained that there was no bus service to there, and taxi or car was t...Read More

Golden Swallow Hotel is close to the train station, across from Sogo Department Store. The staff didn't speak any English. We asked for a room with two beds and got their most expensive room, which was NT$1,500. I saw on their wall at the reception that normal room rates are much lower (NT$800), but probably not with two beds. They will rent rooms for three hours for NT$350. The room was clean, with firm beds and a mini-fridge that needed defrosting, so I did that. There were a couple of roaches in the room. The bathroom floor tiles didn't seem to be slippery with wet feet. There was no bathtub; instead, the bathroom is tiled so it functions as a shower. They put some up some kind of decorat...Read More

Shin Yeah Taiwan Buffet is a steam-table setting, with dining upstairs. You assemble your own food or call in your order if you speak Mandarin, and they even have delivery service. The pricing is based on the number of different items in your lunch box or tray, so the quantity of the item doesn't seem to matter, as it's explained to me. So, if you select the item, don't just take a little bit. The trays or boxed lunch containers aren't really large either. But the small portions were enough to fill and satisfy me, and it's easy on the budget. The food is good--it's fresh, you can see what you’re selecting, and the price is inexpensive. The staff didn't speak any English, but they tried...Read More

Pig & Whistle

Restaurant | "Pig & Whistle"

Quote:
Pig & Whistle is a British-style pub for those who yearn for some foods from Western Europe in a dark setting. The prices for the steaks were too expensive. My partner settled instead for sausages and beans at a reasonable price. I tried the rack of lamb, which was enjoyable but very pricey by local standards of what you could pay for a satisfying meal. The soup was very good, the salad I didn't care for, and the cheesecake was all right (not too sweet). But I'd rather save my money and enjoy the local Thai cuisine. There's dancing and/or live music entertainment upstairs on the second floor...Read More

Little Ding-Dong Science Park is an amusement park, of sorts, designed for little children or kids at heart. This place is designed for huge crowds. On the day we went, there were hardly any other customers--only the maintenance workers--which was great for us. This place looks like it could be overwhelming when it's crowded. It was great fun going through the science park. Bring your swimming trunks/swimsuit and bath towel, as there's a pool you can use.You may also stay overnight, as they have hotel accommodations, campgrounds for tents, and cooking grills.Phone 35592132, fax 35596029 ...Read More

Man Come

Attraction

Quote:

Man Come is a gay sauna in a small building with several floors. There's a TV lounge and shower. It wasn't busy when we went on a weeknight. It gets busy on the weekend. The staff person spoke very little English, but was very friendly. It looks like the establishment is older and somewhat rundown. It costs NT$400, and you can get better rates if you pay in advance for multiple visits.

The sauna is located opposite the bus station, not very far from the train station.
