What better way to spend a December day than to go to NYC for a daytrip to see the sights, sounds and Christmas decorations on Manhattan? The Amtrak train let me off at Penn station in the heart of Manhattan and I was off to see how much I could do in a day. I had checked out possibilities on the web site and found out that I could spend weeks there and never get to see it all. So I set up my possibilities list and off I went. Major highlights to keep you busy include: Famous Landmarks – Empire State Building, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Chrysler Building are some of the landmarks to visit at least once. I started to panic when it was time to find a restaurant for dinner in Manhattan before taking the train home. We wandered around looking at menus on restaurants on 7th Avenue. By luck, we picked Mustang Harry’s and it was wonderful. I would highly recommend the place. Location: Perfect since it was within a block of Penn Station(where the train would leave from). Décor: Excellent with beautiful wood paneling, warm colors throughout the restaurant, interesting light fixtures, a bar area, booths and tables. Food: Excellent. The menu was quite extensive, but the waiter made some excellent recommendations. Both of our meals were very delicious and I would order the same entrees (exc...Read More

I did not "research" ahead where I would eat lunch, so I just picked a restaurant when it was time for lunch. The Bubba Gump Restaurant right in the middle of Times Square was a good choice. As I was walking down the street, the hostesses of the restaurant were enticing people inside. Why? Because this was the Grand Opening of Bubba Gump in New York City! The Grand Opening added to the excitement and atmosphere of my lunch experience. The popular Forrest Gump movie led to the opening of the Bubba Gump Restaurants. I found the menu very funky and brought back memories of the movie. If you visit the web site, you will reminisce also. Some of the movie dialogue is interspersed with descriptions of t...Read More

I did not know much about the Intrepid Museum other than that it was on a WW II aircraft carrier and that it was along the waterfront. Although it was a cool day, I decided to walk from Penn Station so I could enjoy the sights along the way. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. Its amazing how big an aircraft carrier is and how many exhibits and aircraft it can hold. The top three impressive parts were: Exploring the USS Growler, a Top Secret Submarine. It was fun and educational to experience how the men lived when they were on the sub. Click here For information about the USS Growler . Walking along the US Intrepid...Read More

Attraction | "Don't miss the Museum of Television and Radio"

This museum is a treasure for anyone who loves to watch old TV shows. Think of it as a library where you check out TV shows (except you watch the shows in one of the theater rooms in the museum)! The fee is just $10. All visitors to the museum select one of three options for enjoying the museum. A daily program lists descriptions of approximately 15 shows a person could preview in one of the screening rooms or theaters. Think of these shows as restaurant specials of the day. The specials are handpicked to please a wide audience. Based on the description and the times listed, you pick out what you would like to see. In addition to viewing one or more of the specials, you could a...Read More
