Arlington is a large city with a lot going for it for visitors and residents. The Ball Park in Arlington is the home of the Texas Rangers. Plenty to do and fantastic restaurants. Arlington is fun! The limites to your fun are dense traffic and no public transportation. However, most of the time you are no more than 40 minutes from DFW International Airport.

BallPark In Arlington Texas
South & West of D-FW International Airport, Arlington has the majority of family oriented entertainment features in North Texas. A stone's throw from the Ball Park in Arlington is Six Flags Over Texas--the ORIGINAL Six Flags! Ballet Arlington is wonderful. The variety and quality of restaurants is very interesting. You can 'shop 'til you drop' in several shopping areas. The University of Texas at Arlington is a major, world-class university that is in the heart of town. Most of Arlington is a 20 minute or less drive from D-FW Airport.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

You really have to drive in Arlington. There is no public transportation and taxis can be hard to find.

Restaurant

Beef Wellington
Open for lunches weekdays & dinners, but closed Sundays. Very fine food & service. The sort of place you save for special occasions! The steaks and seafood are unbelievable! My favorite is the steak, others we dine with love the fish. Wine list is excellent. A little hard to find. Ask for directions when you make your reservations.

A recent visit served only to improve my opinion of this restaurant. I had a salmon entre that was among the best I've ever had in my life. Although the prices are high, the quality and service are worth it. Illogically located in an office building (look for the 'WBAP' sign, it is wonderful.

Slightly west of the Hilton Hotel. Reservations are really necessary, but skip this place on major holidays. It's no fun when there is a crush.

For years this restaurant has been a favorite of our family for special occasions. In a shopping center, a few feet from Whole Foods Market, it doesn't look as good from the parking lot as it actually is. A very nice white table cloth atmosphere. Very fine Italian cooking. I love the pastas. The soups are very good. Not very far from the Ball Park at Arlington and Six Flags, but the traffic can be horrible, so allow plenty of time to get there. This is certainly a treat when you consider what is served in the chain Italian restaurants. Very busy on major holidays. New Year's Eve is wonderful! Open for lunches & dinners weekdays, dinners only weekends. It's certainly worth calling for driving instructions to get to this fine place.

Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy
Reservations for small groups aren't taken, but they do have a 'phone ahead' list. (817) 468-2622. Outstanding food in lovely atmosphere. Smokers are in an entirely separate room with its own air circulation system. The 'embassy' part of the name comes from the style of the building which does resemble an embassy.

Both the large bar and restaurant are very popular. The menu is extensive with many items that you wouldn't think of as being typically Tex-Mex. We've both tried things all over the menu. Separate smaller lunch selections. Very good soups and salads. You CAN actually fill up a teenage boy here! I prefer the smaller meals. We both love the potatoes! The chips are very thin, making them somewhat messy to dip in the sauce that comes immediately to your table. The Margaritas are HUGE and I am told, wonderful. (Top Shelf Margareta in Schooner size, $8.95) Some of the dinners are big enough to feed a family and we've decided the only way to have enough 'room' for dessert is to order it served first. Service is excellent. Furnishings are very nice. Plenty of parking even on busy nights. A wonderful place!

The photo is of Pescado Guerrero, $13.95, red snapper, shrimps, scallops and light white sauce with a side of potatoes. I had to photograph fast as the food soon vanished!

Khaki's Fresh Food RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Khakis Fresh Food Restaurant"

Khakis is the original dress-your-own-hamburger restaurant in this area. They also have a vast selection of other sandwiches and plate dinners, and a complete and cheap childrens' menu. The burgers and sandwiches are very good. They come with fries. You take your food to a long salad bar arrangement where you can dress them up as you please with hot cheese, cold cheese, vegetables, pickels, peppers, condiments and sauces -- all very fresh. Free refills on drinks. The onion rings are very good, but at $3.50 per serving, pricey!

It's a large restaurant. At lunch time, there can be a line, but we've never waited more than 10 minutes to order our food. It takes about 10 minutes more for the food to be cooked in a kitchen that is open for all to see. Cash, Master Card and VISA -- no checks! Opens 11am daily.

This restaurant is obviously extremely popular! It participates in the IDINE frequent flyer program with American Airlines and Delta -- 10 FF miles per dollar spent.

Yarn selection incredible
I should never have found out about this place! Its location, west of Fielder and south of Pioneer Parkway, makes it very handy for a shopping trip. This shop claims to have one of the largest selections of yarn in the US. Enormous selection of angora, wool, cashmere, metallic and synthetic yarns. All sorts of needles & hooks, many in wood. (The rumor is that you can take wooden ones on airplanes, but I haven't tested that out myself.)

The best part of the shop is the teaching and help that is always available. If you are stuck on a pattern or just plain want to learn something new, this is the place to be.

Yarn 'collecting' is one of my major hobbies. It seems that I have to admire it for a while before I can decide what to do with it.

The folks in this shop are very kind. They won't look down on you if you are no expert at needle arts. Plenty of classes & help for beginners. Also help for men getting started in needle arts.

Telephone for hours and days open as well as driving directions. W. Arkansas is a major east-west street in Arlington.

Arlington is the largest city in the US that doesn't have public transportation. If you are visiting from out of town, you either have to drive or take a taxi.
