La Romana honeymoon

A January 2004 trip to La Romana by Amy Jo

Quote: Viva Dominicus Palace - 7 days, Canoa Coral - 2 days. The weather was beautiful, resorts were very nice and clean as well as the beaches. The check-in went smoothly at both resorts. The Viva Dominicus Palace had champagne delivered to us while we checked in, since it was our honeymoon.

La Romana honeymoon

Overview

Quote:
Relaxing on the beach, going to the different restaurants each evening, watching HBO movies in our room after being in the sun all day, and drinking coffee on the balcony in the morning while watching the ducks.Quick Tips: If you like diet pop, drink the Diet Pepsi. The Coke Light tastes like regular Coke. We took in bills to tip the maid, bartenders, taxi cab drivers, etc. It costs for a taxi from La Romana airport to the Viva Dominicus. Ignore rude people who won't try to move over any while walking on the sidewalk. I read that the Europeans won't budge and they didn't.Best Way To Get Around: We took taxis. There were a lot of scooters on the road with several people riding each...Read More

The room was clean and modern. There were no dressers to put clothes in, but there was a closet to hang the clothes and stack some on a couple of shelves. There was a iron/ironing board and a hair dryer provided. The small refrigerator was stocked with bottled water and soda and there was a balcony with a table and two chairs.

The room was ocean front. It was not modern, but clean. It had a refrigerator and ice bucket and glasses. The ice machine was located outside our door.

The pool with swim-up bar was great. The buffet was good. We were there only 2 days and couldn't get a reservation to the restaurants (that was our only complaint).

Our favorite restaurant was Bambu (Asian). They offered a menu of sushi to choose from; we chose an appetizer, soup, main entree, and dessert.
We really liked the Italian place. The Mexican place was good, too.
The only restaurant we didn't care for was the Caribbean Grill.
The buffet (Yucca) was really good and we could always find something we liked. They prepared eggs/omelets every morning and there was always fresh fruit. The coffee is really STRONG. There were hamburgers/hot dogs grilled at the pool bar every afternoon.

Crazy Wheels

Attraction

Quote:
We paid $50 per person for the four-wheeler trip that took about four hours. I rode with my husband, but it would have cost the same to drive one myself. We rode through sugar cane fields and stopped for a taste of the sugar cane.

The guides took cold water and Coke for the trip. We also stopped for fresh fruit and more water/Coke to drink, which is included, and there was a bar which served liquor for those who knew to take extra money (we didn't). We probably wouldn't have had any money left because we would have given to all the children who were begging for dollars. It was a fun excursion.
