Cozumel mexico

A travel journal to Cozumel by jgdomin

Quote: Mexico's Isla Cozumel derives its name from the Mayans who believed the island to be a sacred shrine. In Maya, Cuzamil translates to "land of the swallows." Cozumel is Mexico's biggest island and I can tell you it is the most beautiful!!

El Turix

Restaurant

Quote:
El Turix, a small restaurant out of the nine-mile touristic zone, specializes in Yucatecan cooking, which is influenced by Spanish, French, and Lebanese cuisines. We felt as if we were eating in someone's home. Indoors, tables and chairs are right in the kitchen, where the owners prepare the four or five items offered each day -- chiefly chicken and pork prepared various ways. After peering into the pots, we chose the chicken pipil, stewed with achiote (how can I explain achiote? Just think of it as a Mayan seasoning) and baked in banana leaves, then sat outside on the patio to listen to the church bells and get the breeze. Just imagine - we got a little basket of handmade tortillas (we asked for thre...Read More

Ecological Reserve Punta Sur Park

Attraction | "Punta Sur Ecopark"

Quote:
The Ecological Reserve Punta Sur Park is located on southern tip of the island. This park encompasses an outstanding variety of natural landscapes. Extending for more than 100 acres, the lagoon environment prevails with its coastal humid soil and mangrove jungles, which are the setting for a mosaic of environments and coastal ecosystems. The marine part of the reserve includes areas where white sand beaches can be found as well as crystal clear waters. Along many reef formations, abundant and diverse fish swim at very close proximity to the beach. The reserve site of the "Colombia lagoon" is in excellent condition; you will enjoy the extraordinary diversity of this ecosystem. The reserve offer...Read More

Plaza Confetti

Attraction

Quote:
Plaza Confetti has a great selection of Mexican crafts – it’s a place that you must visit while here. It’s located right on the main street of town in San Miguel. In these 14 stores with their big selection of merchandise, you will not need to go to another place to find all the gifts necessary to take home (even for your mother-in-law!!!). While shopping, you will feel as if you are in an authentic Mexican town. If you are a cigar fan, please don’t miss the cigar aficionado store -- they have the biggest selection of fine cigars on the island (even Cubans!!!) and the prices are very reasonable! Very nice place!! There's a info booth in front of the plaza where you can get coupons for discoun...Read More

Aqua Safari Dive Shop

Best Of IgoUgo

Attraction

Quote:
Cozumel has one of the best divings in the world. The underwater gardens of Cozumel are formed by great banks of coral, and they are home of a big variety of tropical fish. The divers with most experience (I am not that, I can tell you) say that the submarine experience in Cozumel follows the Great Barrier in Australia, and that is a compliment!!! The professional diving stores in Cozumel can design you individual packages but Aqua Safari´s services is awesome. I have had some ear problems since I was a kid, but my girlfriend is PADI certified scubadiver, so experience or not you will find the emotion to dive in these fascinating waters. Aqua Safari has great boats and diving gear, and th...Read More

Reyco

Attraction

Quote:
If you are not tempted by those colourful, gaudy blankets, painted ceramics, or papier-mache fruits and vegetables, try this Reyco store. This place was recommended to us by the hotel´s concierge. This is a supply shop for all the restaurants and hotels in the island, so prices are fair and reasonable. We were looking for the hand-blown glassware with the blue rim on the top. Remember that I told you that the prices are fair? A dozen water glasses, a 3/4 pitcher and half a dozen margarita glasses for only 350 pesos (about $35 US) -cheap and nice!
