Las Vegas, NV to Flagstaff, AZ

A September 2000 trip to Flagstaff by dcheney

Quote: My husband and I flew to Las Vegas and spent 3 days, before driving to Flagstaff, AZ. The drive took about 3 1/2 hours, but was well worth it. We enjoyed a week of hiking, horseback riding, and sightseeing before heading back to Las Vegas for our return flight home.

Las Vegas, NV to Flagstaff, AZ

Overview

Quote:
We spent our first two nights on the Las Vegas strip. There was so much to do that we didn't spend much time gambling. We went to Lord of the Dance on the first night and enjoyed the free nightly shows put on by the casinos the second night. On the third day we drove from Las Vegas to Flagstaff, AZ. The ride took about four hours. We stopped at the Hoover dam for a short tour. We found that Flagstaff was a great central location, and we took several day trips while we were in Arizona. The Fairfield Flagstaff was beautiful. The room was very clean and well maintained. We had a fireplace in the living room, which was perfect for the cool nights. There was a separate room with a large hot tub. The room had skylights and a large window that faced a wooded area.

We never got to use the pool because they closed it for the winter, but we were able to use an indoor pool at a nearby health club. There was an 18-hole golf course, as well as a par-3 course that was perfect for beginners like us.

We drove from our hotel to the Grand Canyon. It took about an hour. The entrance to Grand Canyon Park was $20 per car. As we got to the Grand Canyon, it began to rain pretty hard. My husband was disappointed and almost turned around. I asked him to give it a few minutes. The rain did pass by and we saw the most beautiful rainbows. They looked like they were going from peak to peak. We saw up to four at one time. It was one of the most amazing sights we had ever seen. Once the rain stopped, we hiked down a short distance. We didn't go that far because it was late in the day. In order to hike to the botto, of the canyon, you must start down early. A permit is needed to camp overnight. Pict...Read More
