It was a long red-eye flight across the country from Seattle to Fort Lauderdale. With bleary eyes, we made our way from the Fort Lauderdale airport to Weston, FL. Vacation Village at Weston is easy to access from the Fort Lauderdale airport. Even though we were ready for a little nap before starting our day, the resort is quite firm about their posted check-in times. The resort is new. It looks, smells, and feels fresh and clean. Vacation Village at Weston, near Vacation Village at Bonaventure, is a collection of several high-rise units just on the edge of the Everglades.
Our condo was a one-bedroom/one-bath unit on the seventh floor, overlooking a bit of a greenbelt and swampy areas. It appears as though some units face the parking lot, some the clubhouse/pool complex, and others face the interstate with the Everglades just beyond. None have what I would describe as a "desirable" view. The layout and furnishings within the condo are quite nice, however. You enter into the kitchen/dining area, which is tiled with slate-like tiles. A large glass-top dining table compliments a fully-equipped kitchen. Beyond this area lies the living area, complete with a sofa bed, a club chair, plenty of lighting, a wide-screen TV with VCR, and a sliding door to the balcony. Set off from the living area is the bedroom and bath. The bedroom is the only carpeted area within the unit and, as with the rest of the unit, is nicely furnished and decorated. Within the bedroom there is a Jacuzzi tub large enough for two. The bath has an entrance into the bedroom/Jacuzzi area and another entrance into the kitchen area.
Vacation Village at Weston’s clubhouse includes a sufficiently equipped exercise room, an activities desk, and an Internet room with two Internet-connected computers available for 15-minute sessions.
When we checked in, we were offered $75 cash if we attended a timeshare sales presentation, which was to be 90-minutes in length. In addition, they promised us a full lunch at a "five-star restaurant." We decided to do it and while I can’t say we were glad we did, I also can’t say that we regret it. There was some pressure to buy and the lunch was hardly five-star (it was a buffet-style affair with bland offerings), but we did actually get a $75 cashier’s check at the end of what turned out to be an almost three-hour affair.
All in all, the Vacation Village at Weston is a good base from which to explore the Fort Lauderdale area or simply relax.
