Acapulco's Best Food

A December 2003 trip to Acapulco by djtravels

Acapulco is our favorite of the Mayan Palace resorts because it is the most beautiful of the group and offers the best dining we have ever experienced. The light show at the Palladium Disco left our son speechless, which is quite difficult to do to a D.J. from the Windy City.

Hotel | "Gran Mayan"

As Mayan Palace owners, we were given the privilege of staying at the new Grand Mayan. The room was great - we had a private pool on our huge balcony with a soaking tub in our bedroom. Our son had the lockout with a Jacuzzi in his room. We had free run of the hotel, which included the water park (it's not just for kids). The Mayan is redoing the lobby, adding a deli, a disco and so many other great amenities that we will probably never tire of visiting. Acapulco, in our opinion, is their most beautiful resort.

Restaurant | "El Olivido"

Still one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten at. The service, food presentation, and choice of dishes surpasses most places both in Mexico and the US, including New York and Las Vegas. First time we visited, the Food Channel was filming there. The view from the balcony is magnificent. Pricing for this "to-die-for" dinner is very comparable to a good dinner at home, perhaps a little less as beverages are less costly.

Restaurant | "Kukkaburra Restaurant"

Been there every time we visit Acapulco and have yet to be disappointed. The food and service are great with an extensive menu. The owner is always on the premises and he is a very interesting gentleman. The Kukkaburra birds are kept in a large cage at the end of the room and the owner loves to show them off. The sounds they make remind us of old romantic movies set on a remote and private island. No, he does not take them out of the cage.

Restaurant

The best family-owned restaurant. Their seafood is so fresh and prepared however you like it. It's fun to go to. We usually see large families with small children dining here. They are not open very late, so the best time is lunchtime.
