A Midwinter Trip to Maine Coast

Overview

The day we left for Samoset, they had canceled school in southern NH, where I live because it was 10 degrees below zero with a windchill of 20 to 30 below. And here we are heading four or five hours north to go to the Beach! But we had a great time. There are many winter family fun activities to choose from in mid-coast Maine. And you get around a lot faster and easier because there are no crowds. It get windy so pack a hat, scarf, and mitters. But the balconies at Samoset are recessed and you get shelter from the wind. As a result, you can sit out in just polar fleece and enjoy sunshine and ocean views. Here are just some of the things to do in mid-Maine in winter: -Spend a day in Camden. ...Read More

One-bedroom timeshare unit

We had a one-bedroom timeshare condo. There are 72 units in three timeshare buildings, all with a view of the ocean. Most units are one-bedroom, but two-bedrooms are available. The rooms are divided into two sections: one section has a small kitchenette, living room, and dining area. The other section contains a bedroom and bathroom. There is a door separating the two sections, as well as doors to the bedroom and bathroom, so privacy is easily contained if someone is sleeping on the pull-out sofa. The room's best feature is the view and natural light. Each condo section has sliding glass doors facing ocean and opening onto a sizable, comfortable, furnished balcony. The sun comes in all day...Read More

Best Things Nearby:The setting of Samoset is truly majestic. The entire resort is framed by Maine coastline. You have constant views of the Penobscott Bay. Without doubt, the best things nearby are the ocean, shoreline, ocean breeze, and the sun. Just outside the resort grounds, Camden, Maine, is another primary asset for this timeshare. Camden offers quaint shopping, fine dining, art galleries, and a postcard-perfect harbor where two- and three-masted scooners leave port regularly. Camden is a must-see for any Samoset visitor.Best Things About the Resort:Samoset is known as the "Pebble Beach of the Northeast" because of its oceanfront, 18-hole championship golf course, which i...Read More

Camden Snow Bowl

Attraction

Quote:
Camden Snowbowl is a local skiing area. It doesn't have the facilities or appeal of the major Northeast ski areas. Nor does it have the technology. However, there is snowmaking on trails and sledding hills. And it has a great location and unparalleled ocean views. They say the bowl is "where the mountains meet the sea." What other ski area offers you ocean views on your trip down the slopes? Lodge is basic. Lift lines are moderate (5-10 minutes). But fun is limitless. If you are not a picky, expert skier, and just looking for a fun, outdoor day of winter activities, this is a low-budget, high-marks park for you.

Resort Amenities

Story/Tip

Indoor Pool Photo, Rockport, Maine

This is a golf resort. So the amenities that are most superior are those that have to do with golf. Dining areas are also excellent. Beyond golf-related facilities, Samoset offers indoor and outdoor pools, weight room, aerobics, yoga, children's playroom, hot tubs, saunas, massage, game room, meeting rooms, multiple restaurants, bars, movies, and tennis courts. See photos of resort amenities. Most amenities are located in main inn, which is a short walk from timeshare buildings. Indoor pool was nice. They offer lap swim times and family swim. The women's locker room, however, had a mildew smell, even though it appeared cleaned. A plus about women's locker room is that they had n...Read More

Service Concerns

Story/Tip

Service Concerns In my experience, having owned my off-season week for only one year, the service at Samoset is not reliable or responsive. In my dealings with front desk, reservation, billing, and other resort staff (not dining staff), I have been less than satisfied. I get bounced around for basic questions. I seem to always have someone on the phone who just started their job and can't answer my question. I have even had to deal with poor attitudes and cool rigidity. I can't say for sure if there are genuine problems with staff morale or turnover. There are too many rules and that creates a rather staunch atmosphere. We weren't admitted into our room until...Read More
