Paradise

A May 2002 trip to Oahu by robwilliams

Hawaii is the greatest place I've ever been. The weather is great all the time. The resorts are fabulous. There are so many things to do on Oahu.

Overview

USS Arizona, USS Missouri, Star of Honolulu Dinner Cruise, Diamond Head, The North Shore beaches, Waikiki shopping, beaches, and nightlife.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Rent a car at the airport because you are going to want to drive all over the island. The only problem with having a car is finding somewhere near Waikiki to park. Other than that, having a car gives you total freedom.
The Diamond Head Theatre is a small, community theatre that has hosted some of the most well known actors/actresses both on Broadway and off-Broadway. The Diamond Head Theatre has been nicknamed by locals as the Broadway of the Pacific.

We saw the stage production of "Titanic" while we were there and we were very impressed with it. It was an enjoyable atmosphere and the ticket prices were very reasonable. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't judge a book by its cover.

Star of Honolulu Dinner CruiseBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "The Star of Honolulu"

The Star of Honolulu is a dinner cruise that seats about 400 people. The dinner is very nice and the entertainment is impressive. They had a live band and a dance floor for anyone who so desired. And for those of you who don't dance, you'll get a kick out of watching those who think they can. It's amazing what some people will do after a few mai tais. You'll sail along about a mile offshore of Honolulu and Waikiki Beach while eating dinner. While eating dinner, you can enjoy panoramic views of the ocean and the island through the windows of the ship. About the time dinner is over, most people make their way to the observation deck where you can watch the sun set on the Pacific. As the sun goes down, Honolulu lights up and it's magnificent. The lights just glimmer off of the shoreline. The ship makes its way back to port soon after the sun sets. It's about a four-hour cruise.

Stars and Stripes TourBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "The Stars and Stripes Tour"

The Stars and Stripes tour takes you through the USS Arizona, USS Missouri, and the Punchbowl Cemetery. It was a very educational and patriotic tour. Anyone who likes American history should go to this tour. The cost was very inexpensive at $30 for all three tours.
