A November 2003 trip

Quote: The Big Island is beautiful, though very expensive. There's quite a bit to do and explore, especially Volcano National Park, but a rental car is strongly recommended while visiting.
The room I had was without refrigerator or microwave, so all meals had to be bought. The rooms were decorated very nicely, with a great view.
The property is quite large and offers either boat service or a tram to go from one side to the other. There are several pools, as well as an open lagoon, which provides some great snorkeling. Be sure to take an underwater camera with flash with you, as they are very expensive on the property. There are many different restaurants on the property, which offer casual dinners (though a little expensive) to formal dinners requiring suit and tie. It's a great place for a relaxing family vacation, though not exactly located directly on the ocean. There is access, but be careful, as lava rocks are sharp and can be very slippery.
