Pret A MangerBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Pret a Manger is the perfect place to grab a quick and inexpensive meal. The restaurant specializes in to-go sandwiches and light fare. There are countless options and -- despite being packaged -- are fresh. I particularly enjoyed the vegan hummus sandwich. This consisted of thick yummy hummus on brown bread loaded with fresh cucumber, red peppers, and other greenery. There is an assortment of crisps and sides to choose from. For dessert, you can choose brownies, trifle, or Greek yogurt with fruit.

PaM offers take-away or you can eat inside at one of their tables. Take-away is slightly cheaper and, let's face it, the ambience outside is much more interesting. All in all, this is a good value.

Madame Tussaud'sBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

I have been visiting the U.K. since I was a child. I always wanted to go to Madame Tussaud's, but nobody would ever take me. Now I think I understand why. If you've ever wanted to stand next to a dummy Princess Diana -- here's your chance. Marvel at all the tiny celebrities! Stand next to Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones! If you absolutely must go, do not pay full entrance price. It's not worth it. There's really not enough in this little museum to warrant the full price admission.

Victoria & Albert MuseumBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Victoria & Albert Museum"

The Victoria and Albert has so much on display, you could spend a week looking through it all. I had the most fun looking through the fashion and interiors displays. The V&A also hosts temporary exhibits. There was a Lucien Freud and Bollywood retrospective while we were there. If you enjoy musuems, you will enjoy the V&A. If you're not so hot on spending a day strolling through antiquities, you might consider other options.

Tower of LondonBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

What can you say? The Tower is one of London's top attractions, and for good reason. There is so much history to explore. It's well worth it to arrive early in the day to avoid crowds. On a related note, you'll want to visit the Crown Jewels early to avoid the crush. There are also tours available and these are very interesting. Wear comfortable walking shoes!

Big Bus CompanyBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Big Bus Tour"

OK, I thought riding around in a double-decker bus with a guide yapping on about London might be a cheesy thing to do, but I was wrong. I'll admit it! The Big Bus is big fun on a nice day. We rode along with London natives who were taking the day off to explore their own city. Can't argue with the locals!

You can buy your ticket online or at one of the designated bus stops (see their website). Once you buy your ticket, you can ride along all day and hop on and off where ever you like. The upper deck fills up quickly but offers the best view on a clear day. The tour gives you an excellent overview of the city and its history.

There are three different routes you can take. You really need a full day to take advantage of all three and the various sites you can take in. The bus runs by Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, Marble Arch, Picadilly Circus, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and others.

If you had only one day, or a limited time in London, I would say the Big Bus is a must if you want to take in the major sights of the city.
