Miami Heat

A December 2003 trip to Miami by PattiOfNYC

This journal will detail my experiences in Miami for the holidays. As a native New Yorker, Christmas is hard to do in 80 degree weather.

Best Things Nearby:
Bal Harbour Shops (across the street) -- high-end shops and wonderful restaurants.

Best Things About the Resort:
The beach is quiet and right outside your door; the pools at the hotel are fantastic.

Resort Experience:
The Sheraton Bal Harbour Resort is a glimmer of fashion and class in the beautiful area of Bal Harbour, Florida. The hotel lobby is cascading with lights and staircases that give you a view of the Atlantic Ocean as you walk in the front door. Rooms with balconies do the same.

The pool area is fantastic for both singles who want the scene and families who can go to the slide areas and the children's pools. It is a high-priced hotel, but worth the cost. The restaurant in the hotel is excellent and the concierge will help you with whatever you need.

Restaurant

This is a busy restaurant, but worth the hustle and bustle. The service is attentive, but you will wait a little while for your food. The food is FANTASTIC. I had Chilean sea bass and it was melting in my mouth. Desserts are yummy and the selection is fantastic. If it is a nice evening out, try to sit in the outside garden - it is a bit quieter and less hectic. I rate this restaurant a 9 out of 10. It is a great meal that fits well into a moderate to tight budget. We were five and dinner was $130.

Attraction

South Beach can be for the beautiful people, but aren't we all beautiful? :-) I love to go to South Beach for lunch and sit at a sidewalk restaurant and watch everyone go by. This place is for everyone, all cultures, creeds and sexual orientations. The place where everything goes. Restaurants range from bar food to quiet intimate fu-fu. Try it out.

Miami SeaquariumBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This was one of the most pathetic aquariums I have ever been too. It was overexpensive, dirty, and the staff was rude. It was a horrible experience. The place has not been refurbished since it opened. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $20 for kids, and that gets you NOTHING but in the door.
