Shawnee Pennsylvania

A January 2004 trip to Shawnee-On-Delaware by Andrea H.

Quote: Shawnee is a great timeshare. The newer units are really nice. In the winter, skiing is very close and convenient. In the summer, there are many golf courses available to play on and many outdoors activities to keep you busy.
Quote:
Best Things Nearby:Swimming, golf at their on-site golf course, horseback riding, skiing, Stroudsburg, outlet mall.Best Things About the Resort:Clean, new and they have activities planned if you want to partake in them. This is especially helpful if you have children. You can drop them off for the activities and go enjoy yourself. Jacuzzi tub in unit, fireplace in living room, and screened-in porch with ceiling fan.Resort Experience:It's located in a rural area where you might have deer roaming around your unit at night. Most of the units are elevated (that's why they call it Ridge Top). There is one bath with a separate shower and a jacuzzi tub. The bedrooms ...Read More

Great food! Bar downstairs (smoking) with eating, big screen TVs and (no smoking) eating upstairs. When the weather is warm, they have upstairs patio dining. Service is sometimes slow but food is very good. When there is sports on it turns into a sports bar. At night they have live entertainment. Their French Onion Soup is great. Portions are big! They bring you garlic pickles and hot red peppers to nosh on before your meal comes out. Beer battered shrimp are terrific. Burgers are like they used to be.

This is one of the few "good" Chinese restaurants in the Stroudsburg area. They don't deliver but you can order takeout. This is a very casual place. Basically a takeout place with tables and bench seating. Food is terrific though. Best Egg Drop Soup anywhere. I highly recommend the Fried Chicken Wings. Anything you order there is going to be good. There is another Fu Lay's in Stroudburg near the Stroudsburg Mall - don't eat there, it is horrible. I don't think they are related.

Everybody's Cafe

Restaurant

Quote:
This is an old Victorian house that they renovated into a restaurant. It is very quaint, and if you like architecture from the 1800s, this is the place, because they have left and enhanced what is there without making it another cookie-cutter restaurant. Definitely a great place for a romantic dinner for two. In the summer or when the weather is warm, they have outside dining too. I had a porterhouse steak that was delicious. Their menu is huge! I don't know how they keep track of all their meals. Everyone in my party had something different and all of them were happy with what they got. I had dessert and it was delicious, again, not something from a restaurant supplier. They also offer vegetaria...Read More

This place is an overpriced place. I don't know how they survive. Everything sold is a package but expensive. Like pick your meat, seafood and then you get your choice of... The food was not so good here and the service also was lacking. I would not even waste my time eating here. I only went there because the name sounded interesting.

Vinny D's Deli

Restaurant

Quote:
This is a place that specializes in food brought in from New York, such as bagels, breads, deluxe cold cuts, desserts. They are good but overpriced. There are other places around where you can find just as good food for less. I would say that they specialize in takeout and catering. The area where there is sit-down dining is not fancy and it is similar to cafeteria dining. You order your food and when it comes up you get it on a tray, sit down and eat it and leave.

This place is a mom-and-pop operation. The food is great and not overpriced. I had chili (a true test) and it was similar to the one I make at home, delicious. Waitstaff is very pleasant, homey atmosphere, homemade food. You ask them to do something special for you and they try their darnedest to please you. The kind your mother used to make. The place looks like a small diner but you know what they say about things that come in small packages.

This is a mom-and-pop operation. Their fried chicken is out of this world. It is called Broasted Chicken. Well, it is some of the juiciest chicken I have ever had. Be sure to try their cheese gravy fries. They are delicious. Taste Buds' prices are good too. A good place to bring the kids. They serve breakfast all day. Try their Salisbury Steak, yum! with mashed potatoes. You will not leave there hungry. They also serve hot dogs, hamburgers, cheesesteak sandwiches.

Good pizza joint. They make New York-style pizza. Salads are very good. Prices are reasonable. You just order your food at the counter and they bring it out to you.

McDorff's Tavern

Restaurant

Quote:
This local tavern serves good, inexpensive food. They have early bird specials from 4:30 to 6pm everyday. They do have a non-smoking section. They have excellent onion rings, homemade soups and chili (made from scratch), sandwiches, Italian dishes, salads, wraps, and dessert. I think they even have a couple of vegetarian dishes. If you have special requests, they will gladly try to accommodate you. On St. Patrick's Day, this place is packed, and it is definitely a local hangout. It is a great place to bring your kids (they do have a kids menu) because they do not care how much noise they make. They can also accommodate large parties right away, so if you have a crowd, this is a good...Read More

Ned's on 9th

Restaurant

Quote:
The food is not bad, but the service is slow, so if you are not in a hurry, this place is for you. They are quite popular, so you should go early because you may have to wait, and there is not much of a waiting area.

A big drawback is that the bathrooms are located in the bar next door. This is not so great if you are a non-smoker because the smoke in there will leave you smelling like smoke. Also, since this is the only bathroom in the place and there is only one stall, you may have to wait, especially if patrons in the bar are drinking heavily.

This is definitely a local place. The food is a smorgasbord of different types, from Italian to steak, chicken, and fish.

This place is a dive and not air-conditioned in the summer. It is a series of trailers put together. I think the locals may frequent this place. I saw an old automobile with a sign on it pointing to this place, and I went to check it out. I went in and went out. They should keep it "hidden away."
