Viva Las Vegas

Overview

Quote:
See everything! There are many obvious things to do on the strip, but there are also many hidden things to see and do.

Quick Tips:

Get any discount you can -- there are coupons available everywhere!

Best Way To Get Around:

It is not easy to drive the strip on busy days. There are buses and trolleys that you can pay to go from one end to the other, but you can sneak into a few hotels and use their complimentary monorails.

Every room is a suite in this hotel! Our suite was exquisite, with a large marbled bathroom with separate shower/bathtub, two vanity sinks, separate vanity table, separate bathroom. A little further was our king-size bed with faux canopy, full-size closet and armoire with 27-inch color TV. Down a few steps into the living area was a couch, two comfortable seating chairs, coffee table, another 27-inch TV, table with three chairs, functional desk with multi-function printer/fax/copier, and minibar. Note that rates are higher, but they do offer discounts through the year - sign up for email notification at their website.

Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino

Hotel | "Flamingo Hilton"

The only reason we stayed at this hotel was the extremely low rate of $75 per night for four nights including weekend! Hotel has been on the Strip for some time now, and while big and full of amenities, it might be showing its age. The room we had was basic, but comfortable - could have had some upgrades to the soft goods. Hotel has a great pool complex and mini-zoo of penguins (yes, penguins!), fish, and, of course, flamingoes. Casino was big, but cramped and did not pay out very well.

Adventuredome Theme Park

Attraction | "Adventure Dome at Circus Circus"

Imagine a giant pink oasis in the desert! Adventure Dome is an indoor amusement park behind the Circus Circus casino. This round haven for thrill seekers has been able to fit in a looping roller coaster, log flume ride, motion-simulator movie theater, and various other thrill and kiddie rides. It is climate controlled, so you can ride in comfort, and has a pay-one-price option - or you can elect to pay for each ride individually. If you decide to take pictures in the Dome, please remember that it is enclosed in pink glass, so use a filter for standard film, or expect to clean the picture up with digital.

Star Trek: The Experience

Attraction | "Star Trek the Experience"

Get excited, Trekkies! Your visit to the Experience is off the Strip at the Las Vegas Hilton. The experience is comprised of a futuristic casino, shopping area, restaurant (all of which are free to enter and explore), and the experience (for a charge, of course!). $29.99 gets you an all-day pass to the museum of the future, which acts as a giant queue for the ride, a timeline for the mythology highlighting major points, and a collection of clothes and props from the various shows and movies. The next step is the ride, which starts out as a "motion simulator" ride in the Vegas Hilton and then becomes...well, I'd rather not spoil it for you, you'll have to see it for yourself.

Manhattan Express Roller Coaster

Attraction | "Manhattah Express Roller Coaster at NY, NY"

What can I say about a mega roller coaster that is modeled after a NY taxi? Well, since I am from NYC, I can say that they did a good job! Like their NY counterparts, the Manhattan Express will twist and turn you into a frenzy. The ride entrance is in the casino and can have a long queue - get there early or before closing. It features various loops and corkscrews, all on top of the casino, and the world-famous heartline twist - as you are speeding forward, you are suddenly turned upside down and then drop into a semi-circle until you are turned back right side up! You will really come out of your seat for this one!
