Beautiful Sint Maarten

A December 2003 trip to St. Maarten/St. Martin by SouthSeaDrifter

We went to this beautiful island in the sun for the Christmas and New Years holidays, and it was wonderful, warm, and friendly!

Best Things Nearby:
Great shopping, good sunbathing, nice boat trips (snorkeling, diving, pub crawling, mud baths), wonderful restaurants. Two of the best restaurants I've found in the world! Los Gauchos (Argentine Beef) - great ambiance, great staff, great food and world class. Right in Philipsburg, Captain Oliver's Restaurant & Marina at Oyster Pond - an outstanding Saturday night lobster buffet, everything from the sea, plus lamb, pork, beef, ribs and a dessert boat. Neither of these restaurants should be missed if you're in Sint Maarten.

Best Things About the Resort:
This is a 32-unit timeshare, excellent staff, right on the beach, world-class shopping right out the front door.

Resort Experience:
One of the nicer, warm, quiet islands, with friendly people. Many things to do, from diving to snorkeling, to great boat outings, personal watercraft, parasailing and some nice casinos.

Great eating places, from rustic beach cafes in Grand Case, to fine French dining in Marigot, to seafood in Oyster Pond, to great beef in Philipsburg and nice waterfront dining in Simpsons Bay.

Also, there are a number of close-by islands to visit that are quite unique in their own right, from St Barths to Saba to Anquilla to Tintamare.

We were there for two weeks and had full days each day.

If you're going with young or old children, there is a fine zoo and a butterfly farm that is great!

Gauchos (Los)Best of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Los Gauchos"

The food (Argentine beef) was excellent! The staff was great and the service was excellent. Although they specialize in Argentine beef, they have a number of vegetarian dishes also.

They are open for lunch and dinner. This has now made my list of the top five restaurants I've eaten at in 109 countries.
