The price per room, in this gorgeous hotel recently purchased by a renowned Italian hotel chain, was for the mandatory meal plan for two persons for each day (approx. $30pp/pd) at their lovely restaurant. This unexpected expense was not mentioned, unfortunately, in the RCI Book/Datasheet prior to our departure, and we wish this would be optional or limited to fewer evening meals so that one could enjoy dinners in other local or even nearby establishments, as is customary on vacations or when one cannot prepare meals in your room. A delicious breakfast and excellent service was, however, included in the timeshare reservation. Corner rooms with bathroom were oversized, with TV, small table and chairs, and sleeper sofa near balcony; all rooms were reachable by elevator or stairs; sauna, steambath, and massages by experienced staff were on site; outdoor swimming pools with hotel guest passes were nearby. Hotel bar/pub had daily themes and entertainment; friendly and helpful multilingual service offered every hour and day. At their outdoor cafe, you could take in the sunshine, pristine mountain air, gaze at the handpainted murals on surrounding buildings, or just people watch.
The hotel was centrally located in the pedestrian area, where there were shops, pubs, and restaurants, and local activities abounded. Cable-car rides to the summits of several mountain peaks were within walking distance, as were the train station, local brewery, historic church, and international bike race events - an ideal location to maximize fun for all ages.
The trains, as well as local taxi service, could take you to surrounding quaint and famous villages, such as Kitzbuehl, where you could walk the trails of Olympic skiers who train here for the winter Olympics or tour a castle and churches from the 1100s!
The locals were quite friendly and gladly shared the local events that might interest you. Local festivals always included scrumptious homemade cheeses, drinks, crafts, music, and costumed dancers.
Lots of outdoor activities were available - some free, most reasonable. Guided hiking tours were offered on a daily basis for a varied experienced participant. Breathtaking views from all heights (3,000-8,000 feet!) were available by hiking, walking, mountain biking, or taking a one-way/round-trip mountain gondola lift. The vistas were better than those in the Heidi and Sound of Music movies!
Nearby cultural centers Salzburg and Innsbruck are only 1 hour away and provide hours of historic and cultural adventures. Tours to other areas, special events, and countries are always available. Car rentals are offered as well. We did not need a car as we had our Eurail/Austria Train Pass or used a local taxi if we wanted to save time to attend an event in a neighboring village.
We met the most wonderful local and international families, experienced memory-filled adventures, and cannot wait to return.
Thank you, RCI, for providing us with a week's vacation we shall never forget, as it was one of your resourceful timeshare consultants who found this little-known vacation treasure for us, when another resort we requested was not available. Kudos, as always, to you and your staff.
