I have been to Hawaii 12 times so far. I have gone to Oahu, Maui, Hawaii and Kauai. So many people will tell you to avoid the island of Oahu -- I will tell you otherwise. Don`t confuse the 2 mile strip of beach called Waikiki for the ENTIRE island! Go and do non-touristy things (although doing touristy things is almost a must your first time there). But by ALL means, rent a car and DRIVE all over the island. If you see a beautiful beach, stop driving, pull over and enjoy it!

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Rent a car and drive. On the island of Oahu you will find one the best public transportation systems called TheBus. www.thebus.org

Close enough to the beach but it won't break your bank. Clean, great view, and great customer service by all staff. From bell hops to room maids.

Restaurant

Dukes has a great breakfast buffet. It`s $9.95 but you will eat like a King or a Queen. Plus, you can`t beat the view.

Dukes is a young, loud and FUN hangout. Great music and nightlife in Waikiki. Tourists and locals alike enjoy the atmosphere.

Mom and I enjoying dinner!
The teriyaki steak is awesome. Great early-bird specials. Also, go around 5:00-6:00pm for dinner and request to sit outdoors. You'll experience some great sunsets overlooking Waikiki!

McDonald Restaurants: Fort St MallBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "McDonald's (Okay, Don't laugh!)"

Favorite Menu Item: McTerry Burger!
Unique Qualities: I bet you can only get the McTerry Burger here in Hawaii and nowhere else. Once you`ve eaten it, it`s addictive! It`s basically two smaller hamburger patties on the bun. They`re marinated in terriyaki sauce, then I then there`s onions and mayo on it as well. Talk about yummy and it`s only 99 cents! :) Location: All over the islands -- if it`s not on the menu, ask for it.

Attraction

Just another photo
Go swimming at the beach....any beach. Oahu tends to have the best `swimmable` beaches in Hawaii. Meaning safer.

The water is warm and inviting.
Get out of the hotel pool and dive into the beach!

Attraction | "Lanikai Beach"

Sunrise over Lanikai
Lanikai Beach -- my FAVORITE Beach in the world is located on the windward coast (east coast) of the island of Oahu. Basically drive east, then northeast along the coast of Oahu. You`ll get some fantastic views along the way. Go to Kailua, drive past Kailua beach to enter the little town called Lanikai. Park near any residential street and find one of the many paths to the beach. There are times you can be there by yourself.

The Mokulua Islands are about one half mile off the shore of Lanikai. These islands house many birds such as the I`wa, as well as provide a destination for fun recreational activities such as surfing, kayaking, snorkeling and paddling. Only Moku Nui, seen on the left as you face them from Lanikai Beach, is open for landing. Visitors are restricted to the beach so as not to step on the many seabird nests. This gorgeous island has a superb beach, an impressive double mountain, and stunning offshore views. Its somewhat smaller twin, Moku Iki, is almost its spitting image, but officially landing on it is not permitted (bird sanctuary).
