Hill County Heaven

A May 2003 trip to Canyon Lake by njbro

Quote: We had a wonderful reunion with family and friends at Siverleaf Hill Country Resort. We were there with several generations, and we all found something to do and were delighted with the accommodations. We got this through the bonus vacations and were very happy with the results.

Hill County Heaven

Overview

Quote:
Swimming, cavern tours, horseback ride (children and inexperienced adults), fishing, antique and other shops in Gruene, and amusement parks are all activities to participate in from this resort. There is no reason to be bored.

Quick Tips:

The best place to get groceries is just 5-10 minutes down 306 to the first light and turn right. There is a grocery store down in that little town that has everything you need. We even got a custom-decorated birthday cake from there. It is an IGA.

Best Way To Get Around:

A car is a must to really get around in the area. The resort does offer tours and there is an orientation, so if you are not able to drive yourself, there are options.

Wonderful accommodations. We overlooked Canyon Lake and a swimming pool that was like our private pool. Elevators and wonderful units with a fireplace, washer and dryer, and jacuzzi tub in each bath. Each bedroom had a king-sized bed and TV. There was queen sofabed in living room. We were delighted. the check in and check out were easy and the staff friendly. There is a towel exchange mid-week. The furnishings were comfortable and cheerful. The table seated six with three stools at the kitchen snack bar. The balcony had a table and four chairs and entrance from living room and one bedroom. There was one drawback in the one bedroom. It did not have drawer space. There was a closet on each...Read More

Best Things Nearby:Canyon Lake, Natural Bridge Caverns, San Antonio and Gruene were all places that were nearby and worth visiting.Best Things About the Resort:We had two-bedroom units in the Presidential Villas and they overlooked Canyon Lake. Each unit had a fireplace and a balcony and each bedroom had a bath with a jacuzzi tub. The units overlooked the pool, which was not large, but we often had it to ourselves. This was in contrast to the larger pool by the clubhouse, which, when we went on the weekend, was quite crowded.Resort Experience:This was an excellent and beautiful location. We were close enough to go to the River Walk and Alamo in San Antonio...Read More

There was a little family restaurant that was on the main highway right across from where you turn to go to the marina. This little place had excellent family fare, including an apple pie that was the best I have ever tasted. The entire meal with dessert was under $10.00 and was very good. I highly recommend this place.

Some of the guys in the group were thrilled to attend the Anheuser-Busch class to become brewmeisters (they even got a certificate!). There is something here for everyone.
