Relaxing in Koh Samui

A May 2003 trip to Koh Samui by Aya

Quote: This was my graduation trip. I went to Koh Samui with my friends a couple of days after our high school graduation. We basically spent our time on the beach or shopping.

Relaxing in Koh Samui

Overview

Quote:
The best thing to do, of course, is to bum around on the beach and sun bathe! The shopping was pretty good although you see a lot of the same things everywhere. The night life is pretty good (depends what day you go out). We weren't there for the peak season but there was a fair amount of tourists around. The spa I went to was nice and relaxing. The food was definately one of the most memorable things about this trip. I also went scuba diving but I didn't see much, and the place I went to wasn't that beautiful. Quick Tips: Bargaining when you go shopping is a must because they really try to rip you off. You HAVE to eat Thai food while you're there. Get a massage, even if it's just on ...Read More

I stayed in a standard bungalow, which is the cheapest room at Seascape. I was pretty disappointed but it was cheap so what do you expect? The shower was pretty crappy because the force of the water wasn't very strong. But I used my friend's shower in the family suite and it wasn't any better. The deluxe bungalows were a lot nicer than the standard bungalows. The food at the restaurant was really good even though the service was quite slow, and the people were friendly. This hotel is located right at the end of the main street of Chaweng but it wasn't that far from the main night spots. If I go back there again I probably wouldn't stay there. If I did, I would stay at a deluxe or beachfront ...Read More

I was expecting this place to be a little more luxurious, but it was good enough. We had a little difficulty finding it because our cab driver hadn't heard of it before. It's about 15-20 mins away from Chaweng Beach and it was a great place for my friends and I to relax after all our drinking and going out in Chanweng. The spa actually has some body cleansing program which I didn't do. But a lot of people seemed to be fasting and doing this whole cleansing thing. I had a body massage as well as a aloe vera body wrap (which I highly recommend) and a clay facial massage (which I also highly recommend). It was a shame that a lot of people were fasting because the food there was really goo...Read More

This was one of my best dining experiences in Koh Samui. I tried to eat there before, but it was full, so I couldn't get a table. So I highly recommend that you make a reservation (especially during peak season). Poppies is right next to Seascape Beach Resort. The atmosphere is quite romantic and you can get a table down on the beach. The open-air pavilion seats 40 people but there are 60 more places available on the beachside terrace. There is live music: Spanish and Classical guitar, piano, Thai Classical music. The most important thing though is that the food is great! I ordered a Tom Yum Goong (spicy lemongrass soup with prawns), shared a Yum Woon Sen (clear glass noodles with seafood)...Read More

Noori India

Restaurant

Even though I wanted to eat as much Thai food as possible, I couldn't resist trying the Indian food at Noori India. I walked past this restaurant every time I went shopping so my friends and I decided to give it a try one night. For some reason, there were not a lot of customers when we got there. This place used to be an Irish pub before Noori India and they haven't changed the interior at all. The service was noticeably good. They had a wide range of familiar Indian dishes. We ordered dishes like aloo gobi (curried potatoes and cauliflower), palaak paneer (spinach with cottage cheese -- a personal favourite!), tandoori chicken, vegetable samosas, and naan. The food was great and very f...Read More

Diving at Sail Rock

Attraction

Quote:
I took a day diving trip with my friends to Sail Rock (Hin Bai). We got picked up by a van at our hotel and we drove about 20-30 minutes and then got onto a small boat. It took about 2 hours for us to get to Sail Rock, which is one of the most famous dive sites in Koh Samui. I can't remember how much we paid, but I do remember that it was a very reasonable price. It included everything from rental costs to lunch and transportation. We were a little bit rusty with diving, but they set up all the equipment for us. The water temperature was fairly high, so we didn't wear wet suits. The weather wasn't so good that day, so the visibility was quite bad. We didn't see much on our first ...Read More

The Reggae Pub

I had heard a lot about the Reggae Pub before I actually got to Koh Samui. It was very different from what I expected. I thought it would be a chilled out pub with good reggae music. But I was wrong. The second floor is a good place to chill out. There are pool tables and a couple of tables that you can sit at if you ever get tired of dancing. There is also a bar, which is less crowded than the ones downstairs, however, they take forever to serve you drinks there so I would recommend that you just buy your drinks at one of the bars downstairs. Downstairs is where most of the people are. There is a stage with a live band playing. They do not, however, play reggae music. ...Read More
