Best Way To Get Around:

This hotel is located right at the end of the main street of Chaweng but it wasn't that far from the main night spots. If I go back there again I probably wouldn't stay there. If I did, I would stay at a deluxe or beachfront bungalow.

There is a 7-Eleven right next door so you can buy water and snacks there. There are plenty of motor bike rental places as well as money changers around the area. You'll have no trouble getting a tuk tuk. The main shopping area is not too far and neither is the hospital/clinic. The swimming pool is small but nice and there was an adequate number of beach chairs on their beach.

The spa actually has some body cleansing program which I didn't do. But a lot of people seemed to be fasting and doing this whole cleansing thing. I had a body massage as well as a aloe vera body wrap (which I highly recommend) and a clay facial massage (which I also highly recommend).

It was a shame that a lot of people were fasting because the food there was really good. The papaya salad was a bit too spicy for me (even though I can eat really spicy food). The swimming pool is really pretty.

We stayed in the deluxe bungalows, which were smaller than what I expected. I thought the rooms were too dark at night. We stayed there just for 2 nights but we went to Chaweng for our last night and they arranged a "taxi" for us. It ended up being two motorbikes and two of us had to sit behind, which was quite scary. It's isolated from everything so you should go there only if you want to relax.

The most important thing though is that the food is great! I ordered a Tom Yum Goong (spicy lemongrass soup with prawns), shared a Yum Woon Sen (clear glass noodles with seafood) and a jumbo shrimp dish as my main course. All my friends were satisfied with their food too. They had both Thai and western food but I recommend you eat the Thai food. I had a deadly chocolate cake (can't remember the exact name...maybe it was death by chocolate...) and it was SO unbelievably good. It was basically chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream but extremely tasty and I didn't want to share it with any of my friends!

I highly recommend this restaurant. I've tasted a lot of Thai food in my lifetime and this was definately a great Thai restaurant. The service was efficient and the waiters were friendly.

This place used to be an Irish pub before Noori India and they haven't changed the interior at all. The service was noticeably good. They had a wide range of familiar Indian dishes. We ordered dishes like aloo gobi (curried potatoes and cauliflower), palaak paneer (spinach with cottage cheese -- a personal favourite!), tandoori chicken, vegetable samosas, and naan. The food was great and very filling. I ordered a plain sweet lassi (yoghurt drink) with my meal, which was good too. A very satisfying meal!

The waiter working there looked Nepalese, so I asked him if he was and I was right (if you've read my other journals, you will know by now that I absolutely love Nepal!). I told him how I've been there twice and he later gave us free dessert! I don't know what it's called, but it's like a cake in the shape of a ball dunked in syrup. It was a little too sweet, but yummy nonetheless. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

I can't remember how much we paid, but I do remember that it was a very reasonable price. It included everything from rental costs to lunch and transportation. We were a little bit rusty with diving, but they set up all the equipment for us. The water temperature was fairly high, so we didn't wear wet suits.

The weather wasn't so good that day, so the visibility was quite bad. We didn't see much on our first dive. The most exciting thing I saw was a sea cow. To be honest, the second dive wasn't that great either (but my expectations are extremely high after diving in Bora Bora!). The season and weather was not right, but I hear that it is really beautiful when you go at the right time -- you can even see whale sharks!

After we finished our diving, we sat on the boat and ate lunch. This was my favourite part of the trip. The sun actually came out and it was a beautiful day. I love just sitting in the sun and eating. We also just floated around in the water, which was great. The diving might not have been that good, but it was definitely a really fun day.

The second floor is a good place to chill out. There are pool tables and a couple of tables that you can sit at if you ever get tired of dancing. There is also a bar, which is less crowded than the ones downstairs, however, they take forever to serve you drinks there so I would recommend that you just buy your drinks at one of the bars downstairs.

Downstairs is where most of the people are. There is a stage with a live band playing. They do not, however, play reggae music. They play popular pop and rock music from within the past five years. The music alternates with the band and the DJ spinning some club/techno music. And they actually do play some reggae music sometimes.

At some point during the night, they hold a beer-chugging contest on the stage and the winner gets a Reggae Pub t-shirt. They have a separate contest for guys and girls (and the bottle of beer you have to chug is free of course). My friend actually won the girls' beer chugging contest one of the nights we went there.

Overall, I thought the crowd was kind of old. There were a lot of students when I was there because many people from my high school and a high school in Bangkok were there for a graduation trip, but the others were old men with young Thai women, and some young backpackers.

This place starts getting crowded at around midnight. I don't think this place is crowded every night of the week because the crowd somehow seems to alternate between The Reggae Pub and the Green Mango. I would always go drinking elsewhere first, then move onto the nightclubs. The toilets are surprisingly clean here.

You can actually walk here from the centre of Chaweng but you can also get a tuk tuk. There are lots of bars around this place and there are Thai women constantly looking for travellers to pick them up.
