Beauty of Annapolis

A travel journal to Annapolis by gaylansue

Annapolis Maryland, a jewel just outside of Washington, DC

  • 9 reviews
Annapolis is a quaint little town, surrounded with history, water, and the famous, U.S Naval Academy. There many small pubs, restaurants, and places to visit. Take the walking tour, visit the Academy, and have a few beers at the local pubs. A most wonderful place to visit.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking and taxis are the best. If you are downtown, you can walk anywhere. If you want to go across the Eastport bridge, you can take a cab. There is no reason to ever leave downtown.

Marriott Annapolis WaterfrontBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Marriott on the water"

The only waterfront hotel in Annapolis. You can walk to everything from there. Ask for a partial or water view room, it is well worth the extra price. Just remodeled, restaurant is great, sit by the water, and order a Pain Killer with Pusser's rum.

Great rooms, it is a little out of the downtown rush, however, still walkable. Largest hotel, with lots of restaurants across the street. There is a bus that will take you to downtown Annapolis and pick you up. Not as expensive as the Marriott, but really a great hotel.

Carrol's Creek CafeBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Carroll's Creek"

Perhaps the best crab cakes in Maryland. Also known for it's cream of crab soup. Fabulous. The seafood entrees are excellent. For a more casual experience come for Happy Hour in the fall and summer and eat and drink on the deck overlooking the water, and the Naval Academy.

Restaurant

A great list of good food. Nothing fancy, however, the prices are reasonable. Bar is a little small, and gets very crowded, however, outside eating on a sunny afternoon is the best.

Probably the best sushi in Annapolis. Also has a great variety of tempura. Small restaurant and always crowded on the weekends. Huge platters of sushi are available to share.

Northwood's RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Northwood's"

Perhaps the best restaurant in Annapolis. Small house and intimate dining experience. In the summer you can eat on their enclosed patio. Prix fix menu during the week for $26.95 is the best deal in Annapolis. From appetizer to dessert, the experience is culinary greatness.

Attraction

Best at happy hour when the drinks are heavily poured for $2.50 a drink. Bartenders are friendly. Beer specials during the week. Dj on Friday nights, and the food is great old American food, everything from Hamburgers to pasta to steaks. Very good value and great fun especially on Friday nights.

Any cruise you take is well worth the price. There are several destinations that will take you down the Severn River, into the Chesapeake, and day trips to St Michaels. The sailing boat from the Marriott is also spectacular. You will not be sorry you took any of these cruises. A must for your trip.
