A November 2003 trip to Kauai by Rogr

Kaui is the oldest island and by far the most spectacular. It's the Hawaii that you have seen in the movies with everything to do from beaching it to kayaking on the Wailua River.

Best Things About the Resort:
The best snorkeling on Kauai is right in front of the hotel. It's clean with view of the ocean in all rooms and the staff is friendly. Location is great too.

Resort Experience:
One of the best timeshares we have had. We liked it so much we bought another timeshare here for our base, and we will use it every year. The rooms are comfortable, but they are probably due for an upgrade of the units.

Excellent restaurant where you can choose to eat in the upscale restaurant upstairs (dressy) or the casual pub downstairs. Go see the Marriott Hotel after.

Restaurant | "Gaylord's @ the Kilohana Plantation"

Since this restaurant has been sold or turned over to the sibling, we do not recommend it at all. Quantities are extremely small porportioned and it is not the quality that it once was. Unfortunately this restaurant used to be our favorite place to dine on Thanksgiving night. Now we go to the Plantation down by Poipu, and this is excellent.

Excellent restaurant! Newly remodeled and excellent dining. The atmosphere is rainforest garden view, and the staff is friendly and fun. The menu is American with seafood a specialty. Steaks are fresh.

Attraction | "Polihale"

One of the most beautiful beaches on Kauai with a gorgeous view of Napali Cost (south end). The sand is white, flawless, and soft. This beach also offers camping and is relatively uncrowded.

Kayak WailuaBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Kayaking down the Wailau River to Secret Falls"

It's a good workout kayaking to the falls. On the way there you are kayaking against the current of the river coming down, and on the way back you are kayaking against the ocean current coming up the river. The falls are 200 feet high and you can swim in the pond below and stand in the falls. It's ice cold but well worth the experience.

Kauai has the only navigatable rivers in all of Hawaii. It's one of our favorite activities to do year after year, although it has become quite popular and can get crowded, so go early, at around 8am. It will take you about four hours give or take. The location is by Kappa Town, a fun place to have lunch after.

Seasport DiversBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This company is by far the best dive company on Hawaii. We dove at the Cathederals and the Ice Box, and saw white-tipped sharks and of course many turtles. Next time I will go to the forbidden island (Nihiiha?)and do a dive with them there. The guides are very well-informed, knowledgable, and point out wildlife most other companies will miss.
