Holidays in New York

  • 14 reviews
From Thanksgiving through New Year's, New York's spectacular Christmas lights virtually turn the city into a fairy land. Visit the Macy's window and Sak's Fifth Ave. Ride in a horse drawn buggy through Central Park. If you have a chance be sure and at least have a drink at the Plaza and Tavern on the Green. See the fabulous Rockettes at Radio City, or just stroll among the lights on 6th street. The best place to stay is around Time Square, check out the Doubletree Suites, or the Marriott Marquis for spectacular views on Times Square. Broadway show tickets at Half Price ticket center across the street. Luxury, stay at the Plaza, Ritz Carlton, Pierre, and overlook Central Park. Ice skate in Rockefellar Center, or Central Park. Stroll down 5 th Ave., Trump Plaza, or if you love champagne, go to Bubble Lounge around Tribeca. The Tribeca Grill for dinner and Bubble Lounge for drinks. Visit the bar at the Paramount Hotel (Whiskey Bar), SoHo Grand Hotel, Hogs and Heffers (wild and crazy), or any one of a fabulous list of clubs and bars.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

I find that taxis are great but expensive. Public transportation during the day is fine. Would worry about it at night. Walking is the way most New Yorkers go. A limo at night if you are going to several different destinations, a great way to see the city and go to several night spots.

Fabulous suites accomodate 4 people. Great for families. Wonderful location. Half Price Broadway tickets out your front door. Also for luxury stay at the Plaza, Ritz Carlton, or Pierre on the park. Definitely get a room overlooking Central Park. The Marriott Marquis is wonderful in Times Square and the Waldorf is very central also.

If you have never been to New York, and want the ulimate New York Experience then stay at the Plaza. Very pricey, however, it is an unforgettable experience. You must stay there at least one night. It is fabulous. The Oak Room Bar is a must for cocktails.

Great hotel in Times Square. Broadway theater actually in the hotel. Very large, and easy to get lost in, though. Location can't be beat though.

Tavern on the GreenBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Everyone who goes to New York must at least have a drink at Tavern on the Green. Probably not the best food, however, the atmosphere definitely makes up for it. Surrounded by sparkling lights year round, and it is especially beautiful at Christmas. Take a carriage ride through Central Park or to the Plaza for dessert or drinks. Simply a wonderful New York experience.

Restaurant

In a word some of the best food I have had in New York. Very trendy place in Tribeca, owned by Robert DeNiro, and frequented by stars. It is a great experience.

Great food, service can't be beat. Fabulous room, and the food is superb. Ask for the room with the water in the middle. Very expensive but worth every penny.

New York's only revolving restaurant at the top of the Marriott Marquis Hotel. The time to go is just before theater or before sunset. The views are fabulous and the food is good. Good pre-theater and after theater prix fixe menu.

A must for every visit to New York. Try to go on a day when it is not cold or windy, or cloudy. The views are fabulous. Just think Sleepless in Seattle. Sometimes the lines can be very long but they move very fast.

Where the girls dance on the bar, and throw their bras, where tequila is a specialty and of course, beer. No tables so get there early so you can get up to the bar. Extremely fun with a group or a bunch of couples. It is crazy, wild, and absolutely one of the most fun places in New York. Be sure to go to the one in the Warehouse district though.

A must for a trip to New York. This museum is the ultimate in museums and if you can only go to one, be sure this one is it. Special art exibits change frequently. Grab a hot dog from a vendor and relax on the steps. It is great.

Very interesting cave like bar. Cigar bar up the stairs. Band was good, and the crowd was very interesting and ecletic. No 'list' so easy to get into.

Fabulous, champagne bar. Very relaxing, after dinner desserts, champagne for every occasion. From moderate to very expensive depending on your taste. Also champagne by the glass, and all bar drinks. It's a favorite place to unwind after a night of clubbing or for a very romantic interlude.
